WCRPG Update for January 17, 2017

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! It's time for the first Weekly WCRPG Update of 2017.

First up this week: I apparently owe you all an apology - I failed to write an update last Monday (January 9th), which is when I said I would during the last update. Having not approached the project very much over the course of this past month, I for some reason thought that yesterday was the day that I said I would resume updates. That one's pretty much entirely on me, though in fairness none of y'all asked me about it this past week either...

I won't say anything about missing the update yesterday - I slept in for the holiday, so what can y'all expect, right?

For having been a month since the last update, I don't have a lot to report to y'all. I have mad…

WCRPG Update for December 19, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

It's been two weeks since my last update, and to be wholly honest I'm embarrassed with how little I've managed to accomplish during that time. I wound up spending my overnights playing KSP - though in all fairness, it proved to be a pretty good way to keep awake. It also means that I was playing when I could've been working on Elegy...

My focus was still largely on completing the dialogue of the four scenes in the prologue of Chapter 2.3 these past two weeks. With work on the first two scenes finished, I began the period with work on the third scene and got to the point where I was comfortable calling the dialogue in that scene ready to go on December 6th. I anticipate having…

WCRPG Update for December 5, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

Not a whole lot to report to y'all this past week; if I we weren't getting ready to head into the end of the year, I might've considered skipping the update this week. I spent pretty much the entire week working on dialogue in the four scenes of the prologue in Chapter 2.3 of the Elegy campaign, with work focused primarily on the fourth scene this past week. I've been reorganizing the dialogue in that scene a fair amount, looking for an optimal way of ordering things around so that it flows logically and covers all the topics I want to talk about. Originally, I had things where there was no opposition to the idea of the group checking out the status of the Demon's Eye base b…

WCRPG Update for November 28, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update. For y'all in the States, I hope y'all had a pleasant Thanksgiving holiday this past week.

It's been a couple of weeks since the previous update, and I have to admit that I have once again been playing more KSP than I probably should have been (on the plus side, I've got a pretty awesome refinery/refueling station system set up around Kerbin's moon at this point and I've got a pretty good manual ILS system set up - including marker buoys out in the water, a first for me). What work I've been done on Elegy these last couple of weeks has been limited mainly to work on the dialogue in the prologue of Chapter 2.3 and making additional notes regarding the scenes I've been working …

WCRPG Update for November 14, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

This past week was another relatively light working week. I spent my time in Chapter 2.3 of the Elegy campaign trying to work through the litany I've had for the past several months - to finish the stats of the Demon's Eye Base, slice the plot some more and begin working on battle maps. With the stats of the Demon's Eye base completed last week, I decided to spend this week beginning work on the battle maps. To that end, I needed to come up with a basic design for a Kilrathi asteroid base. At the beginning of the week, I was under the impression that there was no extant design for such a base; it was a suggestion from CIC member L.I.F. to check with the Saga team for the desig…

WCRPG Update for November 7, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

I haven't got much to report to y'all this morning, and in fact I debated as to whether or not I should cancel this morning's update. I decided to go ahead with the update since we're rapidly approaching the end of the year and it's likely that I'll have to skip at least one week sometime in the coming weeks. I'm also typing this up this morning, so this is liable to be one pretty short update.

In truth, I spent much of my week playing Kerbal Space Program...

I did get some work done on the Elegy campaign this past week, beginning with a review of what I'd built so far for the Demon's Eye base statistics on Monday. I hadn't cracked open those notes since late May, and at the t…

WCRPG Update for October 31, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

Well, I am happy to report this morning that, after four months of work in earnest, Chapter 2.2 of the Elegy campaign is finally 100% complete. The week began with the effort to finish generating new and re-purposed terms in order to finish translating the second scene of that chapter's prologue into the Kilrathi language, work which took most of my day on Monday. I was in a position to begin filling in blocks by my afternoon break. I was rather annoyed at the end of all of my work on Monday to discover that I had missed a term (specifically for 'sow'), but not as annoyed as I was on Tuesday when I discovered that I hadn't finished translating a block of moderate-size and as…

WCRPG Update for October 24, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

This past week was spent working on the translation effort of the second scene of the prologue in Chapter 2.2 of the Elegy campaign. Given that I had largely missed the previous week, I made a concerted effort to get as much done as I could on each day. I completed four blocks of text on Monday with another six blocks partially translated, and nine blocks were completed on Tuesday with another seven partially translated. I really knocked out some blocks Wednesday afternoon in particular, taking care of twelve translations and two partials during that half-hour alone. Granted, they were all smaller blocks, but it did a fair amount for me on the "personal morale" front. I was …

WCRPG Update for October 17, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

I wound up having a pretty tough week this past week owing to events in real life; on Tuesday, I came down with a stomach bug that caused me to have to leave work early and spend the day resting, and then I already had events scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday that required me to watch one or more of my children during the day. So, I only had two working days this past week, on Monday and Friday. Both days were spent on the ongoing translation work of the prologue in Chapter 2.2 of the Elegy campaign. Monday was actually fairly productive, with sixteen blocks of text fully translated on that day alone and one partial block. In fairness, these were smaller blocks of text, b…

WCRPG Update for October 10, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

This week began with an effort to finish up the remaining syntactic reviews in the second scene of the Chapter 2.2 prologue in the Elegy campaign. Apparently I had a rather major miscount going on from the last two previous weeks - on Monday, I discovered that I'd forgotten to count a total of eleven blocks where the syntactic reviews had been completed, which meant that I had less work to do on that front than I thought I did when I posted the previous update. Needless to say, I was pretty happy about that - Monday turned out to be a particularly hectic day in RL and I was happy to get as much done that day as I did. With only twenty-two text blocks left to review instead o…

WCRPG Update for October 3, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

This past week was largely spent catching up on the ongoing effort to translate the prologue in Chapter 2.2 of the Elegy campaign. As no doubt those of you who read my updates were already aware, I had generated a very large number of new and re-purposed terms over the last two or three weeks and I hadn't been taking the time to get those new terms into the lexicon proper in Chapter Eight. This week I rectified that, continuing the effort to generate additional required terms after taking the day off on Monday due to the re-location of my workplace. On Tuesday, in addition to generating terms, I decided to break the English-to-Kilrathi lexicon table into multiple tables divi…

WCRPG Update for September 26, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

Not much of anything new to report to y'all this week. I'm still translating the prologue in Chapter 2.2 of the Elegy campaign, and I wound up having a couple of significant distractions as the week went by (largely due to the re-location of my workplace but also due to the impromptu translation of the opening scenes of Wing Commander II, which was posted to the CIC forums late last week). For the week, I wound up completing ten blocks of text in their entirety and partially translating another six, mostly in the first of the two scenes of the prologue. At this point, all of the blocks in that initial scene are at least partially translated and just need the generation of the …

WCRPG Update for September 19, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update. Typing this one up this morning, so it's liable to be short.

This past week saw the continuation of the effort to translate the prologue of Elegy Chapter 2.2 into the Kilrathi language, the final piece of work that needs to take place in that chapter before I can move on to Chapter 2.3. I had a pretty nice little system going on wherein I would perform the actual translation work during my lunch break and then proceed with new syntactic reviews during my afternoon break, and I'm liable to continue this process during the coming week. In all, a total of seventeen blocks of text were completely translated, with another 28 blocks seeing at least "partial translation" status whe…

WCRPG Update for September 12, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

This past week was pretty short as far as Elegy was concerned owing to the Labor Day holiday as well as this past Friday, which I spent making revisions to the side project responsible for the most recent hiatus on WCRPG Updates. During the three days I spent working on the campaign this past week, my focus was on the ongoing translation effort in Chapter 2.2. On Tuesday, I completed the syntactic review for the final remaining block of text of the prologue's first scene, so all that remains with that scene is the actual translation. A total of three blocks of text were translated that same day and partial translations took place on five more blocks. On Wednesday and Thursda…

WCRPG Update for September 5, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update. My apologies for the posting this as late in the day as I am - it's a holiday here in the States; I slept in...

Well, as those of you who follow my updates are no doubt aware, I haven't given y'all an update for three weeks (and to be completely honest with y'all, if that weren't the case, I'd skipping the one today). The main reason for the extended hiatus is because during the period from August 15th through August 28th, I was not working on Elegy at all. Instead, I was building the initial prototype of a deck-building card game. A local board game cafe holds a Game Developer Day on the final Sunday of each month, and I wanted to have my prototype in a state where it would …

WCRPG Update for August 15, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update. Got majorly distracted at work this morning; my apologies for this one being late. I also had to type this one up this morning, so it's short...

I once again don't have a great deal to report to y'all this morning. I started another side project this past week, and as usual it has cut into the amount of available time I have to work on Elegy. Ordinarily such projects are over pretty quickly and not much happens with them, but this one I imagine will take some time, so the pickin's are going to be slim for at least the next week or two. The potential is there for money at the end of it, so it has my attention. Most of my working week was spent beginning the effort to translat…

WCRPG Update for August 8, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

I don't have too much to report to y'all this week, though there is some good news. Most of my week was in Chapter 2.2 of the Elegy campaign, where my efforts to work on the narrative of the prologue continued. The first four log entries in the week are pretty much identical - "worked on prologue scene two narrative" - and I will say that logging that effort was pretty easy to accomplish (not that it's ever particularly difficult). I am pleased to report that I was able to wrap up work on the prologue on Thursday, which just leaves the translation of the narrative into the Kilrathi language to do in Chapter 2.2. I am debating as to whether or not I want to have my creative c…

WCRPG Update for August 1, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

Work these past two weeks continued in Chapter 2.2 of the Elegy campaign. As I had anticipated and mentioned in the previous update, work on the Kabla Meth encounter wrapped up on Monday the 18th, as was work on the narrative of the first scene of the chapter's prologue. Work shifted to the dialogue of the second scene of the prologue over the next two days, with that seeing primary completion by the close of the day on the 20th. I also continued work on the Problems sub-section of the T'kon Meth encounter - the last piece of work needed in the actual Mission portion of the Chapter - on those same days. I was out of town beginning on the 21st (the "position late in the week w…

WCRPG Update for July 18, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

Work continued this past week on Chapter 2.2 of the Elegy campaign, with a concerted effort underway to attempt to complete the two remaining encounters in the Chapter (the ones at Kabla Meth and T'kon Meth). On Monday, I performed the necessary SI calculations for both parts of the Kabla Meth encounter and filled out the encounter tables. Some plot slicing took place on Tuesday with the T'kon Meth encounter to help explain the circumstances of the lone transport that Bloodeye's crew encounters there. I had one of those times when I felt up for a change of pace on Tuesday, and wound up spending my afternoon break working on the prologue of Chapter 2.3, chunking up the plot e…

WCRPG Update for July 11, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update. Typing this one up this morning on account of being out of town all of this past weekend, so I'll have to try and keep it short. This is also the first update in the past two weeks, so that job's going to be all the more difficult as likely as not...

Work continued in Chapter 2.2 of the Elegy campaign these last two weeks. As I indicated in the last update, my initial focus was on the translation work of that chapter's epilogue, and as I had anticipated I was able to complete that work later that same day. A total of 21 new terms were generated and 38 were re-purposed for the 26 text blocks that comprise the epilogue, and once again thanks to thesaurus bloat that wound up co…

WCRPG Update for June 27, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

Work continued this past week on Chapter 2.2 of the Elegy Campaign. On Monday, I did a re-calculation of the time, distance and engine repair estimates for the Valgard and Kabla Meth encounters, which was necessary accounting for the changes to the Valgard encounter that I mentioned in last week's update. Work continued on the Problems sub-section of the Valgard encounter over the next two days and largely involved deciding on the structure of the running fight that takes place there. The encounter will rely on the pseudo-random encounter generation routine already built into the campaign setting, and largely what I needed to do was figure out what would take place given eac…

WCRPG Update for June 20, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

My log looks pretty paltry as far as this past week's activities are concerned. I mainly divided my days between working on encounters in Elegy Chapter 2.2 and working on the prologue and epilogue of that same chapter, with work progressing on the dialogue of the prologue and on the narrative of the epilogue each day. On Monday, I began making SI calculations for encounter tables in the T'kon and Orestes encounters. I discovered that, based on the potential force projection of the player group and the disposition of hostile forces for the T'kon encounter, a table wasn't necessary - I was able to set the enemy fighter force at 3 Claymore fighter-bombers for pretty all but the w…

This past week saw full-bore work in earnest commence on Chapter 2.2 of the Elegy campaign, entitled Dekh aq T'kon H'hra (or "Flight from T'kon H'hra" in English). Monday saw work on the T'kon encounter, the first of six planned encounters for the mission (each of which are named for the star system in which they occur - T'kon, T'kon Meth, Orestes, Valgard, Kabla Meth and K'nag Rha). Monday's work saw the completion of the Setup and Results sub-sections with good progress made on the Problems sub-section, work that was wrapped up on Tuesday. I also wrapped up the dialogue of the mission's epilogue on Monday, and made a minor change to the name of the prologue and epilogue sect…

WCRPG Update for June 6, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

Good news to report to y'all this morning. Thanks to a very concerted effort on my part over the course of the last two weeks, I can report that - after eight solid months of work - Tarakh'ga, Chapter 2.1 of the Elegy campaign is finally 100% complete and ready for proofreading. I spent much of the week of the 23rd doing the translation work, completing a total of 48 text blocks. As the translation work progressed, I took some time each day to add any new generated and re-purposed terms to the translation table, which in several cases made certain words available for use later on in the Chapter. May 25th in particular was a busy day, with twelve blocks translated just that day …

WCRPG Update for May 23, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

This past week was spent on translation work in Elegy Chapter 2.1. I started the week continuing the work on the syntactic reviews of the mission prologue text (which, if y'all will recall, is the only piece of work remaining to be done in that Chapter). I completed twelve reviews on Monday. I dealt with some pretty large blocks of text on Tuesday, but still managed to get eleven blocks completed according to my log (chock that up to some very short blocks compensating for the very large ones). The remaining reviews were completed on Wednesday, with work on actual translation of the text into the Kilrathi language commencing that same day; I had two blocks of text full trans…

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

Not that it may matter much to y'all, but this morning's update is being "simulcasted" (probably not the right word but it's close enough). After last Monday's update, I received a request from Chris Reid, one of the main administrators of the Wing Commander CIC website, to go ahead and begin placing a second copy of the updates on the CIC forums. Apparently, some folks have been having issues of late with all the advertising, videos and extra crud that Wikia insists on putting on their hosted sites, and it's gotten to the point where it slows down their web browsers to a crawl. I myself have noticed this when I'm not logged in; they don't blast me with ads when I'm logged …

WCRPG Update for May 9, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

This past week was a rough one. In addition to having four overnight shifts, my paternal grandmother passed away late during the week last week and I went to Kansas to attend her funeral. I wasn't as close to her as I would've liked towards the end, but I will say that she had a pretty big influence on who I am as a person. I find that I don't really have the words I need to adequately describe that particular loss, and so I'll leave it at that.

It was dead week at OU this past week, which (along with finals week) is usually the most productive time of the year for me in terms of work done on WCRPG. I spent my overnights largely working on sections of Elegy Chapter 2.2. Monda…

WCRPG Update for May 2, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

This week began with continued work on the narrative of the prologue in Tarakh'ga, Chapter 2.1 of the Elegy Campaign. If y'all will recall, I had finished up a continuous narrative in the prologue the week before and just needed a few additional lines of narrative in order to close that effort out entirely. I am pleased to report to y'all this morning that I was able to knock those lines out before the day was out on Monday, leaving only the translation of that narrative to the Kilrathi to do in Chapter 2.1. After these many months, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel in that Chapter. I did go ahead and count the number of text blocks that need to be translat…

WCRPG Update for April 25, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update. I'm typing this one up this morning, so I'll have to be quick about it.

This past week was a relatively rough one - I was working on a VASSAL module for most of this past week (one for Milton Bradley's 1986 Gamemaster Series game Shōgun), and it took a pretty substantial amount of time away from work on Elegy. I also did some work with the Starflight III project on Thursday, preparing an update from that project's development team (of which I am a member). The Shōgun mod is in a public alpha at this point, though, so work on that will hopefully be wrapping up soon. Still, my log for the week is pretty light - it consists of me adding the 100+ new terms to the Kilrathi lexicon …

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update. I'm typing this one up this morning, so I'll have to be quick about it. On the other hand, I am glad to be bringing y'all an update at all this week - I misplaced the jump drive on which I keep my log notes early Saturday and for a while there it was looking like I'd left it a few hundred miles away. I was pretty happy when I discovered the thing dangling by its lanyard from the underside of the driver's seat in my wife's car yesterday afternoon...

WCRPG Update for April 11, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

This past week got off to a rough start owing to events in RL and at my workplace. Monday was particularly heinous - I had generated a few notes regarding the structure of the mission in Elegy Chapter 2.2 late during the previous weekend (late enough that it didn't make it into the last update), so I began the week by putting those notes into Chapter 2.2 for later use. I now have at least got the "five-room model" working for 2.2, so I'm more confident that the mission will be more interesting than I was originally thinking. Issues with OU's network around mid-day and a longer-than-expected workshop in the afternoon prevented me from getting much else done on Monday, though …

WCRPG Update for April 4, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

I don't have a lot to report to all y'all this week. It's not that I wasn't busy - far from it - but there wasn't a lot of variety in what took place. I spent the bulk of the week working on the narrative portion of the prologue in Elegy Chapter 2.1. Since it had been a while since I'd worked there in earnest, I decided to kick off the week by reviewing what I'd written so far. It was probably a good thing that I did - I had a point where all the Kilrathi were clenching their fists in understanding (a gesture that comes from False Colors, of course) after already having established that their claws had been extended in anger - the likely result of which would've been a bunch o…

WCRPG Update for March 28, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

It's been two weeks since my last update owing to Spring Break, during which I pretty much gave up on the notion of doing any substantial amount of work on Elegy in order to spend time with my family. We traveled up towards Wichita for my sister's wedding and took the opportunity to go visit the Kansas Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, which is a trip I'd recommend to any space nerd any where in the world. Some discussion of Elegy's story took place at several points during the trip up and back, and some good notes were generated during the period. A lot of discussion about the coming missions took place, with a focus on Chapter 2.3 in particular. Some of the discussion involved the …

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

A concerted effort to finish up the four remaining encounters in Elegy Chapter 2.1 ("Tarakh'ga") took place this past week. Work continued on the tenth-level battle map for the previously finished Flight Deck encounter from the previous weekend, and as I had hoped I was able to knock it out very quickly. I added the map and made a few adjustments to the encounter to account for changes due to the addition of the map that same day. I finished Monday out by working on the Elevator encounter's problems section, working through all details except for Bloodeye's first encounter with the Dya'a'ji character. Tuesday I was able to knock out the few remaining details that needed to be…

This week was reasonably productive. I began the week by adding a single term to the Kilrathi lexicon; I can only say that sometimes I think about things while sitting in church and I'll leave it at that. Next, I worked on the ninth level battle map for the Elevator encounter in Elegy Chapter 2.1; I worked on the map for three days straight. The map was finally completed late during the noon hour on Wednesday and afterwards I worked briefly on the Problems section of the Elevator encounter. I also worked on some of the details of the group's initial meeting with Irgu during the Engine Room encounter. That section of the Engine Room encounter is the only thing keeping me from…

WCRPG Update for February 29, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

As I mentioned on the CIC and RSI boards as well as Twitter last Monday, I didn't get any work done on Elegy during the week of February 15th due to me taking the time to get the design document for Starflight III up where it could be accessed publicly. The effort to convert the document from one wiki format to another wound up taking pretty much that entire week, and I have yet to put my other SF3 files up where they can be publicly accessed, though due to events that have happened these last few days I may forego doing that entirely. It certainly looks like SF3 may be taking off once again, and it is my sincere hope that this time around there will be a finished product at …

WCRPG Update for February 15, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update. Typing this one up this morning, so I'll try to be quick about it.

This past week I resolved to knuckle down and get as much work on Tarakh'ga, Elegy Chapter 2.1, as I possibly could. RL got in the way (naturally) but I still feel this past week was productive. On Monday, I took stock on where things were standing in the Chapter and established a list of work "priorities" for finishing things up. Based on that list, I worked on the Jump Point encounter, completing the Problems section and working on the dialogue of the Naj'bakdor cut scene. I also made a few corrections to the setup section of the Elevator encounter. Both of these encounters are straight-up fights, but how to…

WCRPG Update for February 8, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update. I'm starting this one twenty minutes from my 14Z deadline, so I'll have to make this one quick.

This week I largely got nailed with the whole "get up from your workstation" problem I've been dealing with these last few weeks. I spent the week once again working on Tarakh'ga, Chapter 2.1 of the Elegy campaign. This week I tried spreading the work around - I'd work on one section of the mission one day, move on to another the next, and so on and so forth. It proved to be a reasonably useful strategy, though there was more than one day where, had I been focused on working on WCRPG during my break times instead of messing around with other things, I really felt like I could've kn…

WCRPG Update for February 1, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

My great trudge through Chapter 2.1 of the Elegy campaign continues, though this past week I feel like I actually made some progress. On Monday, I was able to finish up the text of the Setup and Results sections of the Engine Room encounter, and began work on the Setup of the Elevator encounter, work which continued on Tuesday though it didn't see a terrible amount of progress then. I found myself in need of a quick re-read of a section of False Colors, specifically the part where Bondarevsky and company board the picket Wexarragh, are fighting their way towards the ship's bridge and meet resistance. I'm still thinking about whether or not elements from that part of the story c…

WCRPG Update for January 25, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

Work continues on Tarakh'ga, Chapter 2.1 of the Elegy campaign, at what I can best describe as an abysmally slow pace, and as a result I haven't got a whole lot to report to y'all this week. My log this past week has got some pretty vague entries - mainly they say that I "worked on x encounter", where x is either the fourth or fifth encounter (either the Flight Deck encounter or the one in Ni'rakh's engine room, the second of which would be pretty easy to hammer out except that I'm introducing a PC there. Work on the fourth encounter has finally come to a satisfactory conclusion at least, with that wrapped up this past Thursday. I've come to the conclusion that a couple of RL c…

WCRPG Update for January 18, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update. I'm typing this one up a day late, so it's liable to be short.

I didn't get a whole lot accomplished this last week; life has still not completely settled down from the holidays, though I will mention that work on the Star Wars-based hex-and-counter game that has been eating at my time to work on Elegy is largely complete at this point. I just need to figure out details about two ships (Star Destroyers, both of them) and the game will be ready for general testing. With luck, I'll finish that effort up later this morning. I largely spent the week working on details of a deck-plan for a Fralthi-II-class cruiser. Given that the main craft in the game is a ship of this class, it m…

WCRPG Update for January 11, 2016

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the first Weekly WCRPG Update of 2016. I hope all y'all had a very pleasant holiday season.

It's been a while since the last update, and I'll have to admit that as normal, I wound up not doing anything related at all to WCRPG over my extended break. I mainly spent the time with family and relaxed for once. Christmas was thoroughly enjoyable; I mainly received socks (I was in fairly desperate need) on the holiday proper but in between Christmas and New Years I picked up a copy of Pandemic. I like the game mainly because I can play it with my wife and eldest son and every time it's been played we didn't come away from it hacked off at one another (we've been annoyed by the game itself, of course). I'd…

WCRPG Update for December 21, 2015

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the final Weekly WCRPG Update of 2015.

This past week I had more time to work than usual on account of being assigned overnight shifts every day during the working week. I can honestly say that I can't recommend five overnights in a row to anybody - by the fifth night, your brains have turned into cornmeal mush, which, as delicious as that stuff is when you fry it up in bacon grease and add a little bit of butter to the end result, is not a particularly good substitute for brain cells / neurons. My productivity level started off pretty well but gradually fell off by the late week, to the point where I only have a few items in my log for this past Friday.

The focus during the period was largely on a …

WCRPG Update for December 14, 2015

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update. I'm typing this one up around 4:00 AM local time, so hopefully this update will make sense. Or at least is grammatically correct (since I started this sentence with a conjunction, though, I'm probably not off to the best of starts on that front...).

This past week was largely spent in Tarakh'ga, Chapter 2.1 of the Elegy campaign. I had three overnights this past week and used the time to work mainly on the mission's details. On Monday, my focus was on the second encounter, the one on the T'Kon H'hra space station's flight deck (where the point is to get Bloodeye's crew to steal a shuttle without being detected). A lot of the work on Monday set up the work that happened with t…

WCRPG Update for December 7, 2015

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

As y'all might expect, I haven't got a whole lot to talk about this week owing to events in RL these past several weeks. Despite the need for an emergency Cesarean, my wife is doing well and my new son is perfectly fine and happy, two eyes, ten fingers, twelve toes...er.......

(Never pass up the opportunity to make an Addams Family reference...)

Prior to the fun and games at the hospital it was business as usual. I added terms from the previous week's translations on November 16th (and there were quite a few as y'all will recall, owing to the massive amount of translation work that took place that week). I did go ahead and make a few minor changes to the grammatical rules for…

WCRPG Update for November 16, 2015

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

I've got some really good news to report to all y'all this morning. Thanks to a concentrated effort on my part and a decision early in the week to knock out all the smaller blocks of translation that still needed to be done first (a reversal of the decision I mentioned in the previous update), on Wednesday I crossed the halfway point of the remaining translation work in Chapter 2.0 of the Elegy campaign. And then I finished it all up late Friday night - as of this morning, all work in Chapter 2.0 is complete, the twelfth section of the Elegy campaign to see completion (just have another forty-one to go at this point). As might be expected from the massive amount of translation…

WCRPG Update for November 9, 2015

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

I had a pretty slow week this last week - I was typing up a report for a committee that I've been serving on at my workplace most of this past week, and when you combine that typing with what I ordinarily do on WCRPG during the course of a normal week, well...my hands got a bit tired there towards the end. My brains were singed a bit too, but that's generally beside the point.

Despite being slow, the week was reasonably productive. Work continued on the Elegy campaign after the addition of terms from the previous week's translations on Monday. I spent the early part of the week working on syntactic reviews of the sixth and final scene in Chapter 2.0 as well as starting charac…

WCRPG Update for November 2, 2015

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

I had a reasonably productive week this past week; it definitely helps when you don't have too many side projects going on to distract you and when life lets up a tiny bit. This past week's translation work in Chapter 2.0 of the Elegy campaign was particularly productive. I began work on Scene Six on Monday, the final scene in that chapter with 42 blocks of text to translate. A whopping thirty-five syntactic reviews were completed this past week, with three of those blocks going on to completion before the week was out. Barring any major calamities or RL butting in (a distinct possibility at any point during this coming month), I anticipate being able to complete the syntact…

WCRPG Update for October 26, 2015

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update.

I had a pretty busy week this past week; I wish I could say that I spent the majority of my time working on Elegy but looking back through my log, that's just not the case. Most of my work this past week was in relation to my nascent WCCCG VASSAL mod, which I have to report this morning has hit a minor snag - namely, it's reached Beta status over the weekend (yes, I did just start the thing a little over a week ago) but due to its size I still don't have it up where it's available to the general public. The spot where it goes is almost all ready to go, though, and as soon as I can get clearance from somebody willing to host a 200 MB file, all will be cool and froody. Develop…

WCRPG Update for October 19, 2015

Greetings, Wingnuts and Citizens! Time for the Weekly WCRPG Update. Typing this one up this morning, so it's liable to be short. Or at least badly proofread.

I had a fairly active week this past week, one of those where it didn't feel like I got a lot accomplished, but it turns out I got quite a bit done. After the addition of new terms from the previous week's translations to the Kilrathi Lexicon, the week began with the creation of a stat block for the Andorran Jaeger-class Heavy Fighter from the Aces Club, another one I needed to wrap up before I could build the Andorran Zodiac-class carrier. Given the amount of work I wanted to do this past week, I was glad the Jaeger was a relatively straight-forward craft. With a grand total of eight var…
