During the initial development of The Wing Commander Role-Playing Game, I had truly wanted to add materials from fan-based projects to the game mainly as a way of demonstrating the versatility of the system as a whole. This desire was a holdover from the days of my earlier Starflight Role-Playing Game, which included a couple of chapters devoted specifically to craft that had been developed by fans for use within the game system and were included in that system when the game went to print. As I hadn't had as much time to develop a rapport with the Wing Commander community at the time, responses for requests for fan-developed craft were not as abundant, and so I made the decision pretty early on to add craft myself from some of the fan projects I was coming across. Two projects in particular, the ones that were most developed, stood out to me: Wing Commander: Standoff and Wing Commander Saga, the first of which had been completed a number of years beforehand and the second of which was completed while WCRPG's development was ongoing in March of 2012. At first, my interest in these games was only in the ships, but later as work began on the massive list of characters created for the game's Who's Who chapter that following September, I made the decision to add characters from both games as well. The list of characters for the Standoff project had been well-developed on their website at the time. The list of characters for the Saga project, however, wasn't as well developed on the project's website owing to ongoing real-life issues with the project's developers, and so WCRPG went to print without the full list of characters from the Darkest Dawn campaign in it (as had been my intention). That following July, though, I received a message from one of the project's main developers and a file that contained the un-edited text of the data that would have appeared on the site (and may still appear in the future), and was given permission to develop the characters further. Work on the creation of character profiles for these additional characters initally commenced in July 2013 but was put on hiatus as my focus shifted into work to complete the Vespus campaign and into the early efforts to begin work on An Elegy for Sivar, with work to complete the Saga characters only getting underway in earnest as a parallel effort to work on characters for the Elegy campaign starting in August of 2014. The profiles for those characters were released as part of the weekly WCRPG Updates throughout that period, generally at a rate of one or two characters per week. Work on the final character, Admiral Rumley, was not completed until November of 2014, and I mentioned during the November 17th 2014 WCRPG Update that at a later time a full page would be created on the wiki with a compilation of those characters when I'd received some feedback on those characters. I have received such feedback at this point, and so I'm fulfilling my promise to create a dedicated page for Saga characters here at the WCRPG Watercooler. The profiles that will be listed on this page will be the corrected, finalized versions of the characters; persons utilizing any of the original profiles should utilize these instead. I will leave a log/note section to publicly list when changes are made to the page based on feedback received.

And now, here are the profiles:

Character Profiles Originally Included in the WCRPG Core Rules[]

2LT David "Sandman" Markham[]

There’s not much glamor about David’s past; he wasn’t born from a military family, didn't have a powerful politician father and did not have any war heroes in his family. He was born in a North American state, a son of an average middle class family. During his time in college, something ignited within young David’s heart to make him want to apply to become a pilot; he had to apply several times before he was finally accepted into the Space Force Aviation Officer Candidate program.

David was a pretty average officer candidate throughout OCS and flight school; his potential started to shine once he entered advanced flight training aboard TCS Wellington. What set David apart from the other candidates was his heart and spirit; he wanted to learn as much as he could from "The Old Breed" and measure himself to see if he was up to the challenge of becoming a Confederation fighter pilot. Just like any young idealistic rookie, Sandman dreamt of dashing fighter combat with the Kilrathi in his sleep and had an image of himself personally leading the Terrans to final victory over the Kilrathi. He had several acquaintances from his OCS class with him aboard Wellington, including "Panzer" DeMarco, "Hoobler" Hornaday, "Floyd" Pink, "Honeybear" Hasselbeck and the smarmy "Champ" Cooper. During his time aboard Wellington, he learned a lot from his flight instructors First Lieutenant Jon "Assassin" Chaplin, First Lieutenant Alex "Ninja" Crisologo and his squadron commander, Major Kenneth "Kettle" Baws. In addition, Sandman started a mentorship with veteran pilot Captain Marcus "Viking" Snyder.

Sandman survived the Kilrathi ambush of Wellington and was able to complete his flight qualifications. He along with his surviving colleagues were posted to TCS Hermes together as battlefield replacements and served in the subsequent campaign in Vega Sector leading up to a crucial mission to push into Kilrathi territory as far in as the Hyperion system late in 2669 that enabled TCS Victory to slip Lancelot Flight through to the Kilrah system. He later served as an advanced flight instructor during the Border Worlds Conflict. Facing court-martial for refusing to fire on Border Worlds civilians, he led a successful mutiny against the Black Lance conspirators aboard his ship. He was exonerated after the Border Worlds Conflict and went on to become a squadron commander, leading and teaching a new generation of pilots in the same way he was led.

2LT Thad "Champ" Cooper[]

Thad Cooper was the son of Senator Henry Cooper, a member of the Grand Assembly's Committee for Military Expenditures. He majored in studio art from the University of Auburn; while there he also was president of his college fraternity, lead officer of his college Federalist political party interest group and captain of the varsity hyperball team. His callsign refers to him being an All-Confederation fullback during his four years in school. He was selected for flight training and attended OCS with David Markham, Jeremy Pink, Haley Hasselbeck, Joe Hornaday and Angela DeMarco. Cooper set several class records during his time in OCS but was ranked near the bottom of his class in academics, peer reviews and military bearing. He was ultimately assigned to TCS Wellington’s training wing along with the rest of his class. Champ was a capable pilot and a decent shot, but he was also confident, overly cocky, and arrogant. He quickly developed a reputation as an unreliable safety hazard and a thrill-seeker. He was killed during advanced flight training by a group of pirates in the Oberan system after disobeying a direct order from his wingleader not to engage, getting his wingleader killed in the process.

2LT Angela "Panzer" DeMarco[]

Angela DeMarco originally had no intentions to join the military. In high school she was a varsity cross country and lacrosse athlete in high school; while there she was offered an appointment to both the Naval and Space Force Academies. She declined both as she had "mixed feelings" about the Terran-Kilrathi War and serving as a member of the military. She spent time as an activist during her time at the University of Manila’s political science program, working as a volunteer for the Galactic Move On Pacifism movement. Her viewpoint drastically changed when her older sister, a fighter pilot who graduated from the Space Force Academy, was killed in action. After researching the details of her sister's death, Angela did some serious soul-searching about the fate of humanity and what was at stake. She subsequently applied for the highly competitive OCS program and was accepted based on the accomplishments of her sister. In early 2669 she was assigned to TCS Wellington’s training wing for advanced flight instruction. She ultimately perished in the initial Kilrathi ambush on the ship. DeMarco was no-nonsense, driven, and intense officer, one of the most aggressive and outspoken flight trainees from her OCS class. Her callsign stemmed from her ability to steamroll over anybody she conceived.

2LT Joseph "Hoobler" Hornaday[]

Joseph Hornaday was a medical student from the Bahama Islands on Earth. He was approached by the Confederation Fleet Medical Corps to become a doctor; he turned their offer down and instead applied for Space Force OCS and was accepted due to his graduate academic performance and the Fleet's need for intelligent and highly motivated pilot trainees. He attended OCS right after earning his M.D.

Hoobler was one of the top academic performers in his OCS class but struggled with physical fitness and military bearing. He and his fellow OCS roommate, Thad Cooper, would get IT'ed (Intensive Training) on a one-on-one basis with their Drill Instructor for failing multiple personnel and room inspections. Eventually he pulled through, graduating as a Second Lieutenant and earning a posting to TCS Wellington for advanced flight training.

As a rookie trainee, Hoobler was a very book-smart and enthusiastic pilot; he could recite verbatim various engineering systems, tactics, ops limits and emergency procedures as if he was born with the knowledge. His inexperience was evident in his flying; Major Baws gave him slightly below-average marks, citing him as "lacking self-confidence and basic situational awareness" though he also recommended continued training and retention. Hoobler eventually pulled it together, survived the Kilrathi ambush on TCS Wellington and was later assigned to TCS Hermes for active duty.

2LT Jeremy "Floyd" Pink[]

Floyd was a fourth-generation Colonial of British ethnicity. He spent several years as a shuttle pilot working for Horizon Spacelines on a route between Earth and the Inner Colonies. In between cruises, he ran an electro-acoustic band in which he played vocals and guitar. His passion for music got the better of him; he began showing up late for his flights and soon afterwards he was fired. Not having anywhere else to go, Jeremy joined the Navy and applied to Naval OCS. He was originally unmotivated during his tenure with OCS, with barely passable grades and a questionable attitude during his first few weeks. Candidate Pink was seriously considering voluntarily quitting the program until he found out that his old charter travel company had volunteered to take part in the Battle of Earth; most of his former friends and co-workers had been annihilated by the Kilrathi. Pink’s attitude did a complete 180: he completed OCS and earned his commission. Transferred to TCS Wellington, he was an above average performer in the training wing. A natural flyer from his experience in the shuttle lanes, Floyd’s impulsive and "devil may care" nature landed him in hot water many times both inside and outside the cockpit. Floyd survived Wellington's destruction and was eventually assigned to TCS Hermes as a replacement pilot.

MAJ Kenneth "Kettle" Baws[]

Baws graduated from the Space Force OCS program in 2658 and was assigned to the Waging Wasps Squadron aboard TCS Kyoto on his first tour of duty. Kettle flew a Hornet light fighter throughout several failed campaigns by the Confederation Fleet to take Enigma Sector. He was transitioned to the Epee fighter in 2661 and spent three more years aboard Kyoto until the day she went down in the Battle of Enigma. After recovering from injuries sustained during the loss of Kyoto,  Baws was assigned to TCS Gibraltar. She served with her well and survived her loss when Prince Thrakhath’s forces annihilated the Confederate 6th Fleet in the Deneb Disaster. He was later assigned to TCS Wolfhound and was decorated during several intense fleet actions. Shortly after his promotion to Major, he led an Epee squadron against the Imperial Home Fleet during the Battle of Vukar Tag. Upon the completion of this tour, he was assigned to the training carrier TCS Wellington as XO of the 367th Training Wing. After his tour as a flight instructor aboard Wellington came to an abrupt end, Major Baws was rotated back to the front line as a combat pilot and squadron commander aboard TCS Hermes. He was known for being mostly easy-going but also rather impatient, tending to get angry easily - hence his callsign. He began taking private anger management courses to reign in his temper during his time aboard Wellington. After serving through to the end of the Terran-Kilrathi war, Baws retired from the military and started up his own private flight instruction school. He trained merchants to bounty hunters in combat tactics and occasionally freelanced as a privateer.

1LT Jonathan "Assassin" Chaplin[]

Jonathan Chaplin was born and raised in the Border Worlds. He earned one of the few Academy billets reserved for Borders Worlds applicants, majoring in computer science and theoretical mathematics. He graduated in the top 20% of his 2669 academy class and was selected for flight school. He was going through advanced flight when the False Armistice was revealed to be a sham and subequently found himself flying a Ferret off of TCS Arc Royal during the Battle of Earth; he was forced to eject during the final phase of the battle. His later academic training was accelerated and within weeks he was commisioned and assigned to the 347th Training Wing aboard TCS Wellington as a junior instructor. He later survived the Kilrathi ambush on Wellington and was later assigned to TCS Hermes as a combat pilot. At war's end, Assassin returned to the Border Worlds and volunteered to serve in the Border Worlds militia in 2373 when the Black Lance Affair began. Though he fought for independence valiantly, it pained him to be fighting his old war comrades and was among the first to call for mending fences with the Confederation after Admiral Tolwyn was brought to justice. Assassin is adept in assuming multiple personalities, to the point of borderline bipolar disorder. Outside the cockpit he has a fun and easy going personality; in combat, he is as cold as a contract killer or as excitable as a hyperball enthusiast. His combat style emphasizes not on weapons or gunnery skills but on pure flying. He prefers lighter, nimbler fighters that allow him to perform high-g acrobatics to outmaneuver his opponents.

Alec Crisologo is a first-generation Proxie, his parents migrating to the Leto colony from Brazil a number of years before he was born. During his youth, young Alec was given the opportunity to study Shorinji Kempo martial arts under Master Ii Misao, a local Buddhist monk. Alec embraced the Shorinji philosophy, converting to Buddhism and shaving his head in the style of the monks (much to his Catholic family's dismay). He ultimately acehived the rank of Jun-kenshi. His motivations for leaving the temple are unclear, but by the time he turned 18 he applied and was accepted to the Space Force Academy and later entered flight school. Cadet Crisologo became one of the leading competitors in the Academy martial arts team, earning the callsign "Ninja" from his peers. Ninja was among the cadets who were assigned to fight in the Battle of Earth, stationed aboard TCS Ark Royal during the campaign's climax; he survived where most of his cadet friends had not. After finishing his accelerated Academy education (graduating with a B.A. in Military History and Psychology), he was given a commission and assigned as a junior flight instructor aboard TCS Wellington along with his old roommate Jonathan "Assassin" Chaplin under the command of Major Kenny "Kettle" Baws, where it was noted he cared a great deal for the must-pump nuggets under his charge. He survived the subsequent attack on Wellington and was reassigned aboard TCS Hermes as a fleet replacement pilot. Ninja survived the war and continued serving in the Space Force until Black Lance Affair, when he defected to the Border Worlds Militia after encountering Assassin during their raid on the Speradon system. Afterwards, he decided to stay on with the Borderworlds Militia for an exchange tour. Ninja’s opinion about combat is that it’s not about actual flying or gunnery skills, but rather a person’s morale, attitude, and mental state. He meditates for hours off duty, trying to reach that perfect “Zen”. He participates in various ancient Buddhist and New Age rituals. As a result of this intensive self-training, Ninja is always optimistic and has virtually unbreakable high morale. Ninja is an optimist who tends to look on the bright side of things no matter how bad the situation might be. A bit on the sarcastic side, he likes to joke around but he can handle just about any situation with cool precision. A very skilled flier, he's someone who can handle just about anything.

CPT Marcus "Viking" Snyder[]

Viking didn’t attend any formal school; he simply learned how to fly from his father. He grew up flying racing craft and flying interstellar transports for the family business in the Border Worlds. He flew for the family business until he was accepted into Space Force AOCS at the age of 26, earning a commission in 2662. His first duty station was TCS Armageddon, where he spent five years flying a Rapier-II on the front-lines and developed a solid reputation as a combat pilot and a team player. He was transferred to the inactive reserves during the False Armistice; by the time Viking had arrived home in Circe, he had already come to terms that he’d never fly again in the military. The Battle of Earth changed that: by the time Viking was reinstated, the Battle of Earth was already over. Due to Confed’s need for combat pilots, Viking lobbied hard for a squadron on the carrier closest to the front lines but got assigned to the training carrier TCS Wellington as a member of the wing’s sole combat squadron instead. Even though he was disappointed in not seeing action, Viking came to enjoy his job; in addition to ensuring safety of Wellington and her nuggets, Viking along with his squadronmates volunteered to assist as flight instructors and mentor the rookies when their schedules allowed it. Viking, along with the rest of his squadron, was transferred to TCS Kennedy as FRPs shortly before the Kilrathi ambushed and destroyed Wellington. Viking would later be transferred to TCS Hermes again as a FRP and would reunite with the surviving members of Wellington's last cruise. Viking survived the war, going back to the family business and turning it into a private security business for those needing security or defense services along the frontier. During the next decade, his “private security contracts” helped him to stimulate a long-lasting business connection with him and Confed, which subsequently saw the rise of his company as one of Confed’s largest defense contractors. Equally proficient on all types of fighters and bombers, Viking is a steady and absolutely trustworthy wingman.

1LT Robert "Greywolf" McDermott[]

Greywolf was born on Torgo III, the son of a military psychologist and a school teacher who were both aficionados of 20th-Century popular culture (in particular, the cinema of the period). His parents often quoted and referenced old movies in the raising of their son, with the end result being that Greywolf became well-versed in the topic himself and often used the same phrases in and around his peers, often to their bewilderment. Greywolf had a gregarious personality growing up, though he could be loud and bullying at times. Upon his high school graduation, he elected to attend the Space Force Academy; his military upbringing made it fairly easy to adapt to the military lifestyle. He majored in Mechanical Engineering while at the Academy, playing as a starring defensive tackle on the school's hyperball team and ultimately graduating in 2667 in the top 10% of his class, securing for himself an easy spot in flight training. During his flight training, Greywolf specialized in the F-44 Rapier-II medium Fighter, where he developed an aggressive yet "playful" flying style. His first deep space assignment was TCS Leyte Gulf, where he rapidly developed a reputation as a top notch pilot and earned several commendations. Greywolf was still aboard Leyte Gulf during the Battle of Earth, in which he and his squadron flew as bomber escorts; Greywolf was one of only five members of his squadron to survive the battle, landing aboard TCS Satatoga after Leyte Gulf went down during the fighting. Greywolf was reassigned to TCS Hermes after competing transitional training to the F-42 Hellcat-V, where he was assigned to the 811th Fighter Squadron (the Blood Hounds) and later became a member of the carrier's elite Gallahad Squadron, flying the new F-103 Excalibur. During his stint aboard Hermes, Greywolf became a veteran of several bloody engagements, including the battle at Hyperion that would enable the Raid on Kilrah and end the war. Greywolf continued to serve in the Space Forces after the war ended, becoming a much-respected veteran of every military action from the Black Lance Affair to the initial incursions of the Nephilim. Upon her commissioning in 2683, Greywolf was assigned as Commander, Aerospace Group aboard TCS Coral Sea (CVX-4).

1LT Bradley "Avatarr" Alistair[]

Bradley Alistair is a native of Earth, born and raised within a few blocks of California's famous Newport Pier. Always a natural athlete, he began playing hyperball at the age of seven and continued through his junior high school and high school years, playing as starting quarterback and leading the Newport Harbor High School Sailors to a national championship in 2662 and three consecutive state championships from 2661 to 2663. After his high school graduation, Alistair attended the Space Force Adademy with a specialization in linguistics. Through is studies, he notably became one of only a handful of Terran specialists in Kilrathi linguistics and culture; in particular he became fluent in the Kilrathi language. Alistair continued to play hyperball as their starring quarterback all four years of his tenture at his academy; Avatarr earned his callsign during the Academy's 2666 game versus the University of Texas Longhorns, when noted sportscaster Woody Swannie dubbed him "the avatar of hyperball" after his delivery of a spectacular rising-lateral parabolic touchdown pass - a Hail Mary play at that. Swannie's native southern accent stumbled a bit on the word "avatar" and folks mocked the sportscaster's pronunciation in social media, leading to the extra "r" on the end when the name ultimately became Alistair's callsign later on in flight school. Avatarr graduated in 2667 with a B.A. in Linguistics with Honors. The Confederation Office of Naval Intelligence made a relentless attempt to recruit him into their ranks upon his graduation, but Avatarr turned all their offers down and opted for a spot in flight school, specializing in the F-44/G Rapier-II. Avatarr was assigned to TCS Saratoga during the Battle of Earth, where he participated in defensive CAP missions. His performance was a direct reflection on the skill of his fighter wing; Saratoga survived the Battle of Earth relatively unscathed. After the battle he was promoted to First Lieutenant and qualified on the F-66 Thunderbolt-VII. He received a permanent assignment aboard Saratoga in Sol Sector, but the assignment did not last for long; he was reassigned to TCS Hermes in Vega Sector after an unspecified 'incident' that involved the twin daughters of the commander of Saratoga's task force at the time. He served aboard Hermes for the remainder of the War and was a participant in campaigns such as Operation Prowl Growl and the Battle of Hyperion. After the war ended, Avatarr opened up a night club and small mercantile service on the main world of the Hilo Base system; it has been suggested that ONI finally recruited Alistair, and that his businesses are a front for intelligence gathering activities in and along the Kilrathi frontier of Trk'Pahn and Vega Sectors.

Avatarr revels in letting people underestimate him. His uncaring and nonchalant attitude has given people the impression that he’s not all there. His sports record and off-duty bodybuilding hobby gives people the impression that he is just a ‘dumb jock’. His exploits with females (both conquests and failures) are legendary, and has given him a reputation of an ignorant womanizer who treats females as disposable objects. In reality, Avatarr is deceptively alert with a highly analytical mind. With a smooth tongue and a sharp wit, he skilled in making cutting remarks that expose the shortcomings of others or that mock the situation at hand. A free-spirited flier, Avatarr has an energetic flying and fighting style. Even though he is not as grim about war as others, in reality he relishes the thrill of combat and enjoys pushing himself to his limits.

CPT Justin "Phalanx" Sanger[]

Justin Sanger, who has from birth gone by Ian, his middle name, is a native of the agricultural community of Granero on the surface of Masa III, a colonial from a family of Irish descent. He spent most of his formative years with family living on the main world of the Yeager system, with much of the civilian population of Masa evacuated in 2648 during a Kilrathi advance. He was a gifted, straight-A student throughout his early academic career, easily earning the spot in the 2660 plebe class of the Space Force Academy reserved for residents of Argent Sector. He majored in Aerospace Engineering and graduated in 2664 near top of his Class; unlike most of his contemporaries and future ship-mates, Ian did not participate in any athletic activities throughout his academic career. After securing a billet for flight duty, Ian was allowed a two-year extension from active service to complete a master's degree with a focus on Starship Engineering and attended flight training immediately afterwards. His callsign was bestowed upon him by a fellow flight school student who, while strung out on a bad hit of Aphrodyte, attempted to insult Sanger by calling him a "phalanx" (from the context of the conversation, he had obviously meant to call Sanger a "phallus" - and to this day Phalanx is relieved his colleague was too high to maintain a firm grip on the English language in that moment). Due to Phalanx's academic accomplishments and his performance in flight school, he was given his first choice of duty station and ultimately the young pilot selected TCS Washington. Then-Second Lieutenant Sanger reported aboard in 2666 and was assigned to the Ralph’s Raiders Squadron. For the next two years he saw combat in campaigns in the Epsilon and Vega Sectors (including a campaign to liberate his native world of Masa), specializing in the F-44/G Rapier-II. He would be promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant while still serving aboard Washington and remained attached to the carrier until she was mothballed during the False Armistice. Ian was on leave visiting relatives in Sol when the Armistice was revealed as a sham. He quickly mustered up to do his part, shipped out aboard TCS Concordia and fought in the Battle of Earth under the leadership of Maverick Blair himself. He survived the Battle and received a field promotion to the rank of Captain afterwards. Phalanx wanted to deploy to the front lines immediately in the wake of the battle, but Washington had been in an advanced stage of her decommissioning when the Armistice ended and it would have been several months before she would be able to get back into action. In light of this fact, he approached his superiors about a new assignment and was subsequently transferred to the newly-refitted TCS Hermes in Vega Sector, where he served through to the end of the War. He got out of the military after sustaining injuries during the Battle of Hyperion and ultimately found a job as an engineer working for Douglas Aerospace, where he became a key engineer in the development of the F-104 Bearcat, F-108 Panther and F-109 Vampire. He continues to take a leading role in the development of new, top-of-the line fightercraft for the Confederation. To this day, only a few people know of his exploits as "the Hermes Gigolo", a prank he pulled during his stint aboard Hermes that caused much anxiety with the ship's administration, especially with her puritanical XO at the time. Neither flashy nor aggressive, Phalanx’s flying style is practical and to the point. His fighting abilities are well-rounded across the board, though not particularly exceptional in one area. This even-handed approach has led to him becoming a veteran flyer with a calm, relaxed, and sometimes reserved demeanor that sometimes is misinterpreted as aloofness or non-aggressiveness. Phalanx prides himself in being pragmatic: he can see the big picture of a developing situation. Understanding a scenario, a wingman, or an enemy as objectively as possible is usually his goal. He's found it to be a most effective way to stay alive.

1LT Dan "Psychopath" Liu[]

Liu Dan-zu (known as Dan Liu by the TCSF and as "Danny" by his (very few) close colleagues) was born in 2645 in the city of Honghu, located in the Shashi District of China's Hubei Province. He spent as much of his formative years as he could along the banks of the adjacent Yangtze River and Hong Lake, where he developed a life-long affinity for swimming. He performed very well during his nine-years of compulsory education, coming in the top five of his class each year. He continued to perform well into his high school years academically and earned varsity letters in wrestling, track-and-field and swimming; he pretty much had his choice of venues for higher education, and ultimately he chose to attend the Terran Confederation Space Force Academy. During his sophomore year, he decided to pursue an eventual career as a fighter pilot. He graduated in 2667 near the top of his class with majors in both aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering, and later attended flight school. He was selected to receive advanced "must-pump" training aboard the training carrier TCS Pensacola after the Kilrathi's Deneb Offensive and later shipped out aboard TCS Moskva for his first tour of duty, where he specialized in the F-57 Sabre. Liu saw some of the bloodiest combat of the war in the years between the Enigma Sector campaign and the False Armistice; he earned his callsign during these years after he developed a penchant for taking risks and surviving against the odds. He was still assigned to Moskva during the Battle of Sirius, in which the ship was destroyed after a massive Kilrathi bombardment. Liu, the only surviving member of his squadron, was transferred to the escort carrier TCS Firekka and flew off of her during the Battle of Earth with the remainder of her fighter wing. He survived the subsequent battle despite having his fighter shot out from under him, and for his actions he was promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant at the battle's end. When her refit was completed, Liu transferred to TCS Hermes and served out the remainder of the war there, eventually being transferred to the carrier's elite Gallahad fighter squadron flying the F-103 Excalibur Space Superiority Fighter. The Black Lance attempted to recruit him after the war ended, but Psychopath saw the group for what they were and refused. Facing the potential for consequential liquidation as an “accident”, he went AWOL from Confed, and not knowing who to trust, he began waging his own private war against the Black Lance. He would later be reinstated after the Black Lance conflict and would spend the rest of his career in various Special Operations and infiltration units. Disturbingly deadpan under pressure, Psychopath is a good stick and a better marksman. He does not care about promotion, retirement, nor ultimate victory, all of which he does not think he will live long enough to see. While claiming not to be suicidal, Psychopath does have a sort of death wish: he has repeatedly taken near-fatal risks and unnecessary damage. It has not earned him any friends among his maintenance crew. Ironically, his ability to survive when others have not has only boosted his peers’ and superiors’ admiration of his combat skills. Self-reliant to a fault, he doesn’t enjoy the company of others and only trusts few friends. Among them is Avatarr, where they both share the same borderline insubordinate attitude. But unlike the smooth and witty Avatarr, Psychopath is completely devoid of any bedside manner; he is caustic, tactless and expresses his scorn for others in a form of mocking sarcasm. Dr. Koteks, the Hermes psychologist, has said that this is a coping mechanism to deal with the trauma he experienced at Sirius.

LCOL John "Little John" Gerhardt[]

John Gerhardt was a military brat, the fourth child of TCMC Colonel (Ret.) James Gerhardt and TCSF Colonel (Ret.) Elizabeth "Yokel" Gerhardt (nee Brammell) and a member of an American military family with a history of military service dating back to the American Civil War. Both of his parents were survivors of the McAuliffe Ambush, with his mother serving aboard TCS Soryu and later TCS Ark Royal during the fighting and with his father a member of the Fifth Marine Commando Regiment. Both were nearly killed at McAullife and with little Jack less than two months old at the time, they collectively made the hard decision to retire from active military duty to focus on raising their family. The members of the Gerhardt clan settled down near Minot SFB in North Dakota, and along with his brothers and sisters was taught the importance of duty, honor, discipline, hard-flying, hard-fighting and not becoming a "goddamn miserable Navy puke" (a fact that nearly got Gerhardt's older sister disowned when she ultimately opted for a career in the Confederation Navy). The moment he turned eighteen, Jack was (like his older siblings) booted out of the Gerhardt house, with his mother dropping him off right in front of the local Armed Forces recruitment office. Jack chose to enlist in the TCMC and served a distinguished two-year tour with them as an enlistee, serving in several actions during the latter part of the Vega Sector Campaign and obtaining the rank of Lance Corporal before his enlistment period expired. After experiencing life as an enlistee, he decided to go ahead and make the push to become officer material. He applied to the Marine branch of the Confederation Naval Academy, to which he was accepted based on his previous military service. He graduated in the spring of '58 and afterwards attended flight school, specializing in the F-36 Hornet. His domineering, aggressive attitude did not endear him to his fellow flight cadets; one in particular described him as a "total prick" and shortly thereafter the collected assembly agreed that he had to be compensating for having a small penis; a foolish attempt to actually measure it while Gerhardt was sleeping resulted in a fistfight that was not going well for the offender when the flight instructors came in and broke it up. Whether the offender's efforts actually produced any hard data or not, it was not long afterwards that he was dubbed "Little John" by his peers...

Upon completing flight school, he was assigned aboard TCS Kipling (CV-8), where he once again distinguished himself as a fighter pilot. After five years aboard Kipling, Gerhardt was promoted to Captain, received transitional training to the F-54 Epee, and was transferred to TCS Coral Sea. He continued to distinguish himself aboard Coral Sea, seeing action in the Enigma Sector Campaign and in support of operations defending Olympus Station at Ghorah Khar. In late 2667, Gerhardt was forced to eject and was nearly killed in the process; then-Major Gerhardt vowed never to strap on an Epee again. He requested transition to a new fighter platform, and was approved for transitional training to the P-64/D Super Ferret, transferring to TCS Ark Royal with an assignment as XO of the 544th "Hell’s Archers" Squadron. He was still serving aboard Ark Royal when the False Armistice went into effect. Like most servicemembers, he went into the inactive reserve and was reactivated when the existence of the Kilrathi Hakaga supercarriers were revealed. He reported for duty aboard Ark Royal just as she prepared to sail without her jump engines and only 50% rated reactor power. During the Battle of Earth, the squadron CO was killed in action, requiring Little John to take battlefield command of the squadron. Even though Ark Royal was destroyed in the fighting, Little John’s leadership enabled a high proportion of Hell’s Archers pilots to survive. In the wake of the battle, he was promoted to the grade of Lieutenant Colonel and was given official command of the squadron. Little John’s request to "get the hell back into this goddamned war" was granted and he and his squadron were subsequently transferred to TCS Hermes, where he served out the final year of the war. He was deactivated in the general RIF at the end of the war, but was reactivated in 2670 to serve aboard TCS Princeton. This turned out to be at attempt to recruit him for "The Project", but Gerhardt disliked the Black Lance operatives that came aboard Princeton, and when the latter attempted to take over the ship during the Black Lance Affair, he assisted in the UBW takeover of the ship. Princeton remained in possession of the nascent Union after the affair, but Gerhardt elected to return to Confed, where he served out the remainder of his career.

Little John is an intense squadron leader who flies and leads like his hair is on fire. He has a reputation of being extremely demanding of his men, requiring perfection down to the smallest, most minute details. He is known for having a ferocious temper on- and off-duty; the slightest thing can set him off. Needless to say, Little John has been in his fair share of bar brawls (all of which he instigated). However, his squadrons historically have had the highest kill/loss ratios in the Fleet, suffering very few casualties. He is currently married to his third wife; his previous two marriages wound up in shambles and ready room scuttlebutt about his current marriage conjures this to be the reason behind his general less-then-sunny temperament.

2LT Haley "Honeybear" Hasselbeck[]

Haley Hasselbeck (nee Almquist) is a third-generation native of the planet Enyo in Vega Sector, born eight years after the attempted Kilrathi invasion of the planet to a pair of farmers of Swedish descent. Her early years were spent largely on her family's farm helping out with various chores. At the age of five she joined the local 4-H chapter and by the age of eight she had learned enough of the topic of farming that her father allowed her to pilot the family's hover-combine for one day of that year's harvest. Young Haley's interest in flight began developing on that day, culminating in frequent jaunts in the family crop duster during her early teenage years (much to her father's chagrin). She earned excellent grades during her compulsory educational years and was among the top students in the colonial high school, also receiving academic letters in swimming and volleyball. When the time came for Haley to select a venue of higher education, she considered the Space Force Academy but was convinced by her high school guidance councilor to pick somewhere that didn't necessarily guarantee military service. She ultimately chose to attend the University of Fribourg in Switzerland on Earth, where again she excelled in both academics and athletics, ultimately becoming captain of the university swimming, volleyball and zero-G wall ball teams and receiving recognition as a distinguished All-Galactic athlete. It was during her time there that she met and began a romantic relationship with Zachary Hasselbeck, a political science student looking into a career in politics. An argument with Hasselbeck ultimately led Haley to come to regret her earlier decision not to attend the Space Force Academy and she decided that she would enroll in the TCSF's Officer Candidate School program upon graduation; Hasselbeck was taken aback at first but ultimately supported this decision.

Haley went on to graduate summa cum laude with a BS in Biochemistry. She subsequently submitted an application to OCS and was accepted based on her prior experience with atmospheric craft and her high academic marks. Haley earned her callsign after she won a heated public argument with a fellow flight cadet, Thad "Champ" Cooper, criticizing his general attitude on the seriousness of the training. Cooper got revenge over the incident by tapping into her personal communications holo-vid and setting up a recording relay. Champ intercepted an exceedingly intimate session between her and Zack Hasselbeck and publicly broadcasted it to the entire flight school; she subsequently found herself being referred to as "Honeybear" (Hasselbeck's pet name for Haley) by her fellow cadets (and more than a few instructors). She wanted to resign her commission in embarrassment in the immediate aftermath; it was Angela DeMarco and David Markham that convinced her to stay on, and she ultimately did so while embracing her new callsign. At the end of her formal OCS training, Haley was shipped to TCS Whiting for advanced flight training, separating her from most of the rest of her training class (with most of them assigned to training aboard TCS Wellington). Honeybear soon earned notable marks in training simulations flying the F/A-76 Longbow heavy bomber, breaking several records in simulated and live-action fleet attack exercises. She married Zack Hasselbeck shortly after completing flight training and had less than a week to report to her first permanent assignment, TCS Centurion. The abilities she demonstrated early on in her career earned her an assignment to the carrier's elite Black Widow Squadron – an unprecedented accomplishment for a rookie pilot. She proved herself in several nasty fleet engagements and earned several commendations during the war's final year. She remained aboard Centurion until the ship's destruction during Operation Behemoth, after which she was reassigned to William Tell Squadron aboard TCS Hermes, where she served out the remainder of the war. She returned to her husband after the War, with the couple ultimately having several children. Appalled by the destruction of Kilrah, she decided to run for public office and was elected to a seat in the Confederation Grand Assembly, a forerunner of a new generation of young veterans entering politics.

Honeybear is a whipper snapper who executes everything with speed, precision, and grace. She is a capable dogfighter, but is outstanding as an attack pilot. She is an expert in torpedo attack and atmospheric bombing, and flies very defensively. Off-duty, the tall, blonde Honeybear strikes a stunning figure. She puts on a front due to the plethora of testosterone-laden, alpha-male personalities she has to work with every day and is equally prickly with anyone who tries to hit on her; deep down she is still very much a sweet, "innocent" girl.

1LT Marianne "Twilight" Anderson[]

Marianne Anderson is a native of Earth, born and raised in the Romsey ward in Cambridge, UK, in a home a few blocks off the area's famous Mill Road. Growing up, she regularly attended the annual Mill Road Winter Fair and in her early teenage years she enjoyed going punting along the river Cam. She also enjoyed dancing and regularly took dance classes in tap and ballet throughout her formative years. Her youth was generally uneventful, and though she heard stories of how the war against the Kilrathi was going she was generally able to ignore it in Cambridge's academic settings. Her elder brother Raymond, though, decided to muster up and do his bit for humanity, and left Cambridge to attend the Space Force Academy when she Marianne was fourteen years old; he eventually became a bridge officer aboard TCS Enlil. Wishing to see more of the world, Anderson ultimately selected the University of Taipei as a venue for higher education (much to the chagrin of her parents, who repeatedly pointed out that her chosen field of study - namely Interstellar Economics - was a major with a long history offered by King's College and she could've saved a great deal of money on tuition had she remained local. Nevertheless, Anderson went to Taipei, where she ultimately earned graduate-level degrees in Nanobiology and Interstellar Economics. She also competed in the school's swimming and dance teams. The fall semester of her final year at school coincided with the False Armistice and she was still in Taipei when the Kilrathi launched their attack on Earth. In the battle's aftermath, she along with her family learned that Enlil had been destroyed in the fighting and that were brother had been officially listed as killed-in-action. She made the decision to pick up the fight in his stead, and applied to Officer Candidate School. She was accepted based on her academic performance to date, receiving accelerated "must-pump" training aboard the training carrier TCS Saufley. Her first deep space assignment afterwards was TCS Hermes, where she quickly developed a reputation as a top-notch pilot as a member of Burma Tiger Squadron; she earned her Ace ribbon after her second combat mission, and by her third month aboard the carrier she had been promoted to the grade of First Lieutenant and nominated as a candidate for Pilot of the Month. Her tour aboard Hermes was her only tour of active combat duty; she was deactivated in the general RIF at the end of the war, returned to Taipei to earn her doctorate, and later accepted a teaching position at the main University of Oxford campus (for which she caught merry hell from her family, given the historical rivalry between the two schools).

Twilight is by nature a quiet, introverted person, who has a tendency to simply blend into the social background. She generally comes off as shy to the rest of the pilots aboard Hermes, particularly when she's around the plethora of macho, alpha-male personalities aboard ship. The only time she gets noticed as a rule is in combat right after being ordered to "break and attack", when she becomes an utterly aggressive warrior, without mercy, quarter, or hesitation, leaving a trail of destroyed Kilrathi fighters in her wake. Even then she hardly ever talks or exchange taunts; the only thing people hear are the death screams of her opponents. Major Lao, leader of Burma Tiger, has often said that there is no other pilot he would want on his wing, a firm endorsement of her combat skills.

2LT Timothy "Problem Child" Childress[]

Timothy Childress was one of the first Terrans born in the Gemini Sector, the youngest child of a family of South African descent. Childress's father was a welder employed by Douglas Aerospace and his decision to emigrate his family to the planned industrial colony of New Detroit was made solely due to the increase in pay the company was willing to give to employees willing to move there. Timothy was born in the company hospital after the family had been there for about two years. In the early years of the colony, there wasn't a great deal to do; Young Timothy enjoyed watching cricket matches until the global climate left the pitches in a state of permanent rain delay. He got into trouble a great deal as a result, mainly due to the spectacular practical jokes he would pull simply to alleviate boredom. His grades in school were adequate but not spectacular, and as his teachers became the preferred targets for his jokes, he found himself in detention a great deal. His parents insisted that he attend a venue of higher education upon his graduation from high school; he selected the University of Oxford at Planet Oxford (because it was the closest higher education venue) and pursued a major in Archaeology and Anthropology (which he selected because, as he later admitted, it was the first entry in the University's course catalog). His grades again remained adequate at best, and he extended his target list to visiting merchant ships - his activities on that score ended after a ship crash-landed as a direct result of one of his pranks during his junior year, in which he was implicated and threatened with expulsion though the college's administration was unable to proove his involvment. During his final undergraduate semester at Oxford, Childress unexpectedly dropped out, despite having completed all the necessary coursework required for his degree; to this day his motivations for leaving Oxford are unclear though more than one have speculated that the prospect of returning to the drizzle-filled skies of New Detroit after graduation was a depressing prospect for him. Childress enlisted in the Terran Confederation Marine Corps and after basic training was assigned to the 7th Marine Division, 342nd Marine Expeditionary Regiment as a rifleman onboard the troopship TCS Weisbaden. He participated in several infantry drops and assaults during his time in the Marines - the most noteworthy action in which he participated was the assault landing and ground battle at Vukar Tag as part of Operation Backlash in 2668. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant three times while with the Marines, but was repeatedly busted back down to Lance Corporal for fighting with other troops; joining the Marines had not quelled his prankster ways, it had just limited his targets to folks who "had a limited sense of humor". Some time after Vukar, he was recommended for OCS by his Division CO, who by that time was fed up with Childress's antics and wanted to get that particular "problem child" off of his hands; he thus transferred to the Space Force with a ready callsign in hand for his flight instructors. Problem Child ultimately graduated at the top of his OCS class; he attended flight school and received his advanced qualifications aboard the training carrier TCS Whiting. His first (and only) deep space assignment after training was TCS Hermes, where he developed a reputation as a top pilot. His skills as a prankster never abated, even as he found new success aboard Hermes; Hermes XO Commander Kuyendall openly voiced his intentions to take Problem Child before the Captain's Mast on multiple occasions for his antics and shenanigans. He would later serve with the carrier's elite Gallahad Squadron, flying the F-103 Excalibur. Problem Child was killed during the war's final days during the Battle of Hyperion.

Problem Child lives up to his name - he is older than he looks and his practical jokes and pranks are legendary, and often unusually cruel towards the victim. Lately his victims have tended to be those who are physically overweight (or at least close enough for jazz). Several senior air wing officers see potential in Problem Child to succeed in the fighter community, while others are of the opinion that he never left the Marines in the first place. In spite of his troubles, Problem Child is a rising star in the Hermes air wing and is on track to be one of the ship's best junior pilots; many just hope to see him live long enough to "grow up"...

MAJ Jason "Codeine" Dellaney[]

Jason Dellaney is a native of Nephele II in the Vega Quadrant, the son of a supply officer who commuted every day to the remote Bluepoint Station and a school teacher. Dellaney's early childhood on Nephele was generally quiet aside from occasional Kilrathi raids and occasional run-ins with the planet's native Sand Scorpions; when he was six he was temporarily paralyzed for nearly a week after being stung by one of the creatures and had to spend the next two weeks recovering in a local hospital. That same year the Kilrathi launched an advance into the region and Dellaney along with his mother were evacuated; they eventually re-located to Cygnus and later received word that Bluepoint had been overrun by the Kilrathi and all base personnel had been killed. Jason decided then that he would muster up to do his part for the war effort as soon as he was old enough; he signed up for the Space Force Officer Candidate School at Al Fawaris Planetary College and completed the program, earning a commission as a Second Lieutenant when he completed his associate's degree in 2662. He subsequently attended flight school; he received advanced training aboard TCS Beacontree and specialized in the P-64 Ferret. His callsign during training was "Clashmore", a nod to his Irish roots and the academic loyalties of his flight instructor. His first duty assignment was aboard TCS Bull Run, a cruiser of the Waterloo-class, where he served a three-year campaign in Enigma Sector, during which he was promoted to the grade of First Lieutenant. Dellaney showed a knack for being able to keep going when his wingmates - some of them close friends - died in battle; a squadron-mate once commented that "it's like he's constantly on codeine or something", which was the start of Dellaney's second and permanent callsign. Bull Run was damaged in 2665 and had to put into dry-dock for extended repairs; Dellaney was transferred to the cruiser TCS Agincourt and served two years aboard. In late 2666, he volunteered for transitional training to the F-57B Sabre bomber variant designed specifically for the up-and-coming Wake-class of escort carriers, and his expertise in the design led to an assignment aboard TCS Sevastopol (CVE-4) along with a promotion to the grade of Captain. He remained with the carrier throughout 2667 into 2668 and was part of the initial action over Vukar Tag during the opening phase of Operation Back Lash. When the armistice was declared the following year, Dellaney requested a transfer to the inactive reserves and headed back to Cygnus to be with his mother and her family, thinking his flying career was over; this was not the case, however, and Dellaney was reactivated in the wake of the Battle of Earth (which he missed due to still being in Cygnus at the battle's onset). He receieved transitional training to the F-66 Thunderbolt-VII Heavy Fighter and was subsequently assigned to TCS Hermes. As part of the 564th Squadron, the Mud Sharks, Codeine served with honor and distinction, earning the respects of veteran Hermes pilots such as "Psychopath" Lieu and "Avatarr" Alistar. The Mud Sharks had a reputation for being a jinxed unit - no one assigned to it tended to live much longer than half a dozen missions or so, but he outlived all of the senior Captains and Majors assigned to the unit and was ultimately promoted to the grade of Major by ship's CAG Colonel Walker and assigned as squadron CO. Dellaney served with the Mud Sharks until the disastrous ambush of TCS Behemoth, when all but four pilots in the squadron - including Codeine himself - were killed in a secondary Kilrathi ambush and the squadron itself had to be deactivated.

A pilot who is very young for his rank and position, Major Dellaney is the most junior squadron leader aboard Hermes. He is a capable pilot and leader, with a youthful zeal and hence a minor propensity for mischief. He is also smart enough to understand the reason why he holds the standing that he does aboard ship: too many senior pilots transferred into his "jinxed" unit were being killed in action and the command billet was almost always open as a result. He does his duty admirably, however, and when confronted with the fact that almost every pilot transferred into the Mud Sharks has been killed, he merely looks the other way.

MAJ Johann "Mastermind" Ramius[]

Johann Ramius was the son of Marko Ramius, a clothing manufacturer specializing in military uniforms for the Confederation Navy, and Natalia Ramius, a librarian by trade who had a particular liking for late-19th and early-20th Century literature, in particular the works of Ernest Hemingway, Mark Twain and Upton Sinclair - and who made sure her only child was familiarized with those works as well. He was born in the community of Utena in Lithuania and grew up in a home located within a few minutes walk of Dauniškis Park, frequently spending time there during his formative years. The war began when Ramius was four years old and during his childhood he often heard stories of Kilrathi aggression; the first major events of the War that he could recall clearly from his memory later in his life were the Hellespont Massacre and the Enyo Engagement. When Johann was fourteen, a dear friend of his father, TCSF Captain Ivan Putin, was killed in action during a Confederation offensive in Epsilon Sector. Johann had often heard his father and "Uncle Ivan" get into debates over several broad topics during his childhood - mainly on the topic of political science - and his death left his father in a severely depressed state. When Johann was sixteen, Naval Supply decided to switch their uniform suppliers off-world, which killed most of his father's business; the family became strapped for cash, and notably it limited Johann's choices for venues of higher education. Rather than attend college right away, Johann made the decision to donate what funds he had saved up to that point to his parents and chose to enlist in the Confederation Space Force as soon as he turned eighteen over the vehement objection of his parents. During basic training, he showed proficiency in artillery marksmanship and was subsequently assigned to TCS Exeter as a turret gunner. When Exeter received a squadron of first-generation Broadsword torpedo bombers, he was selected from among the ship's existing company to accompany varying flights in the same capacity. He received high praise for his work during torpedo bombing missions while still serving with Exeter, and it was one of the ship's Pilot-In-Commands that recommended him for an officer's commission. Ramius received the news one day that he had been accepted to the Space Force Academy; he left at the start of the next semester and graduated in 2656 with a Second Lieutenant's commission. He attended flight training upon graduation, where he demonstrated a great deal of aptitude in the arts of ground support and anti-capital ship strikes. This got him tracked into bombers; his next combat assignment was TCS Confederation, where he was assigned as a torpedo bomber pilot. He started off as a co-pilot flying a A-17D Broadswords, later earning his qualification as Pilot-in-Command. His seemingly psychic ability to strategize and coordinate several craft conducting their invidivual bombing runs - which almost always resulted in the target’s destruction at the exact pre-planned Time-on-Target under his supervision - earned him the callsign "Mastermind". He was later promoted to the grade of Captain and was transferred to TCS Concordia herself, where he continued to fly Broadswords under the command of ship's CAG Colonel Devereaux. Aboard Concordia he became a veteran of the Enigma Campaign, Operation Back Lash and the Battle of Munro. He also led several alpha strikes against numerous Kilrathi battle groups and task forces during his time with Concordia, which helped stave off numerous attacks against Confederation colony worlds. His last action with Concordia was the Battle of Sirius; his was one the very few Broadsword crews to survive the battle, as Confederation torpedo bombers were among the most targeted craft by Kilrathi forces during that campaign. After the Battle of Earth, he was promoted to the grade of Major, received transitional training to the new F/A-76A Longbow and was reassigned to one of the very first operational Longbow squadrons as squadron XO, serving aboard TCS Hermes. He remained aboard Hermes during the final year of the war. Ramius remained in the military after the War's end. During the Black Lance Affair, he defected to the Border Worlds and remained with the UBW afterwards to serve an exchange tour with the Outerlands Naval Reserve. Upon conclusion of that tour, he was reassigned to R&D and had an active hand in the development of next generation bomber craft like the TB-80 Devestator and the TB-81 Shrike.

Major Ramius is one of the most experienced bomber pilots in the Hermes Air Wing. He is nothing short of a genius when it comes to planning capship attacks and executing bombing tactics, and has the necessary dogfighting skills to hold his own if needed. Personality-wise, Mastermind refuses to acknowledge the glamour and hotshot flashiness normally associated with fighter jocks, and is proud to call himself a bomber pilot to the core. In his words, "Fighter pilots make holo-movies and video games, bomber pilots make history."

LCOL Nick "Venom" Jones[]

There is very little that can be said about the pilot known as Venom. His service record lists his given name as "Nick Jones"; this name is almost certainly an alias and many of the other pieces of personal information in his service record are probably also fabrications. The degree with which his personal information has been classified is consistent with standard operational procedure for personnel assigned to field operations by the the Confederation Office of Naval Intelligence, and it is accessible only to those with the highest levels of security clearance. As such, everything about him is a complete unknown - he has no known family or next of kin, and there are only a handful of people who know about his education, personal background, age, or real name. A corollary of this degree of secrecy is that his combat record is also classified - he's obviously seen a lot of action during his time, but just where he's been and what he's done are secrets, and Jones himself certainly has no plans to reveal them to anyone. What can be confirmed is that he is a highly experienced and skilled warrior. He is an expert in all types of space fighter combat, individual firearms, explosives, intelligence gathering, sabotage, and hand-to-hand combat. One indication of the extent of his abilities is the infamous Report XX0463, in which his team contributed a great deal of medical information about the limits of Kilrathi physical and mental endurance; the methods by which they gathered that intelligence are unknown and there are few service personnel who really want to know anyway. It is generally known that Jones served aboard TCS Hermes during the final year of the war, first appearing aboard during the initial stages of Operation Prowl Growl while he was still leading a Special Operations team (known only as "212") from the Free Trader Jim Bowie. His initial involvement with Hermes involved delivery of intelligence. Shipboard rumor later suggested that Jones and his team were responsible for determining Loki VI as a target for the Behemoth, confirming Dr. Severin’s location in Alcor as a P.O.W., and the mysterious disappearance of an entire Kilrathi cruiser squadron in the Silenos Nebula. It was also suggested that he was involved in the combat testing of the first prototypes of the F-103 Excalibur long before the project was officially announced. All of these rumored exploits were never confirmed nor denied. Prior to the Battle of Hyperion, Jones received an assignment to Hermes by special order of Vice Admiral Rumley as commanding officer of the 912th Fighter Squadron, the Galahads, with the task of forming an elite group of fighter pilots for the battle ahead. Jones drilled his new unit rigorously over the course of several weeks, and ultimately succeeded in his assignment. After receiving word of the success of the Raid on Kilrah, Venom left Hermes (literally; he did not return to Hermes during the final battle at the conclusion of the Battle of Hyperion) and returned to his original unit. In the years immediately following the War's conclusion, he took place in multiple covert operations and 'shadow wars'; it has been implied that he was involved in the liquidation of several key members of the Belisarius Group. He later became one of the first members of the Black Lance and flew an F-107 Dragon Heavy Attack Fighter regularly during the events leading up to the Black Lance Affair. He survived the destruction of the Axius space station during those events and later testified against Admiral Tolwyn during his trial. Facing an inquiry of his own for his actions during the Affair, Venom escaped from Confederation custody and, like most members of the Lance, has since disappeared without a trace.

COL Shane "Ranger" Walker[]

Shane Walker is a native Texan, born in San Angelo and raised on his family's ranch just outside the community of Miles about twenty miles to the northeast, near the intersection of the Runnels, Tom Green and Concho county lines. His youth was spent helping the family on the ranch, attending school and playing football for the Miles Bulldogs; he continued playing through junior high but didn't make the cut for the Mile High School varsity team. He was nine when the Confederation declared war on the Kilrathi, and clearly remembered hearing about the McAullife Ambush and later the Enyo Engagement in his classrooms. He didn't consider an active military career until his sophomore year of high school. His history teacher, Mr. Norris, was a veteran of the Confederation's final war with the Pilgrim Alliance and was very active politically. He enjoyed engaging his students in philosophical debates on the subject of social responsibility, and in particular the notion that it required being prepared to make individual sacrifices; Robert Heinlein's classic work Starship Troopers was often discussed and compared to current events (notably the Kilrathi offensive and Confederation counter-offensive ongoing in Vega Sector at the time). By the time that school semester had ended, Walker had decided that he would enter military service as soon as he was able.

Walker applied to and was accepted to the Space Force Academy in 2644. His performance was excellent and he graduated in the top 10% of his class with a Second Lieutenant's commission. He later attended flight school and was given the callsign of Ranger due to his detectable west-Texas accent. His first combat tour was aboard TCS Wellington, a fleet carrier of the Concordia-class, where he specialized in the A-14 Raptor. He stayed with Wellington in tours of Vega and Enigma Sector until 2648 and earned numerous medals and commendations during his time there. His next tour of duty was aboard the cruiser TCS Antietam. In 2649, Antietam was assigned along with roughly two-thirds of the Vega Sector fleet to Operation Shiva, a mission to invade and occupy Kilrah itself. The campaign went well until the opening move at G'wriss, when stronger-than-expected resistance forced a complete rout of the fleet. Antietam was forced to retreat and during the ensuing action both the ship's CAG and his exec were killed in action; Captain Walker was ranking officer at that point and assumed command over the remaining fighter wing. With support from elements aboard TCS Tiger's Claw, Antietam survived what would later be called "Custer's Carnival", with Walker accomplishing tasks generally expected from a more experienced officer with distinction. Walker was rotated to shore duty while Antietam went into drydock for repair and refit. He became part of a Test and Evaluation Squadron, putting new fighter designs through their final paces before their assignment to front-line units. He flew almost every fighter that would be assigned to Confederation frontline units in the 2660s during this time, from craft as light as the P-64 to behemoths like the A-20, becoming highly proficient in the designs. He was eventually transferred back to front-line duty in 2661 with a promotion to the grade of Major; his next tour of duty was aboard TCS Washington. His experience in the test squadron served him well; intimately familiar with every craft in the ship's arsenal, Walker knew how to use each craft to inflict maximum destruction on the Kilrathi enemy, earning him an outstanding reputation aboard ship and several squadron rotations as mission-specific needs arose. He was ultimately given permanent assignment as XO of the ship's Sabre squadron. When the CO's spot became available, Walker assumed that he would be assigned to the position; ultimately, however, the job went to Major Matthew "Pawn" Moran, an officer newly assigned to Washington. This did not sit well with Walker, and as a result the two officers started off as fierce rivals; they butted heads in everything from personality clashes to flight operations. Ultimately, though the two learned to respect one another and became close friends. At the Battle of the Enigma Black Hole, Moran was gravely injured; though he survived, he was permanently grounded afterwards and Moran recommended that Major Walker be given command of the squadron. Further campaign actions aboard Washington in Epsilon and Enigma Sectors would see Ranger ultimately promoted to the grade of Colonel his subsequent reassignments first as ship's Deputy Wing Commander, then finally as he permanent Commander, Air Group. By 2668, he was well-established as a combat leader and tactician. That year, Washington was sent to Trojan IV for an extensive reactor refit and modernization, and for the next few months leading up to and during the False Peace, Colonel Walker took a billet as Chief Staff Officer to General Gruelmack, commander of the 4th Space Force, aboard space station Orion. During the Battle of Earth, Colonel Walker was instrumental in leading the fighter group from Orion against the Kilrathi Armada, which helped the forces of Admiral Tolwyn’s fleet to buy time for the Marine. After the Battle of Earth, there was a need for senior officers to fill in command billets for various fleet carriers coming back online, and Walker requested such a posting. His request was granted and he was assigned as the new Commander, Air Group aboard TCS Hermes under the command of his old squadron commander Matthew Moran. He served in that capacity during the War's final year, overseeing operations in important campaigns such as Operation Prowl Growl, the ship's assignment to the Behemoth Squadron, and the Battle of Hyperion. After the War's conclusion, he was offered and accepted a posting as Commandant of the Space Force Academy and spent the rest of his career in upper echelon staff position. He ultimately retired from active service having achieved the flag rank of Lieutenant General, moving family back to the family ranch outside of Miles.

Colonel Walker brings over twenty years of experience to the front line. He is arguably the most experienced pilot in the Hermes Air Wing and can fly any fighter in the Confederation's inventory. He prefers to lead from the front and he consistently alternates between different squadrons when he flies patrols, which helps to keep his skills honed and helps him remain familiarized with the pilots under his command. He is the epitome of a military hardass, with his strict demeanor and military bearing. He demands much from his pilots - but as a rule he doesn't order them to do anything that he hasn't done himself first.

LCDR Katherine Sweeney[]

Katherine Sweeney was the eldest child of Donald C. Sweeney and Millaaraq Qavuvu Sweeney, a pair of surveyors employed by the Terran Confederation Exploratory Services. She was conceived while her parents were conducting a sweep of Farris Quadrant in Gemini Sector the year prior to the opening of the territory for general colonization. While travelling through a corridor of systems between New Caledonia and Troy that would later be named after the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, their ship was heavily damaged by a series of asteroid impacts and they were forced to set down on the sole inhabitable planet in the Troy system (which would later be named "Helen") to repair their craft. On Christmas Day in 2638 while they were still on the planet, the time came for Millaaraq to give birth; Katherine Sweeney is therefore listed in Confederation records officially as the first citizen to be born on the planet, and indeed she was one of the first Terrans to be born in Gemini Sector. Her parents had planned to have Katherine born on Earth prior to the accident that stranded them on Helen; they went ahead and took an extended leave from the TCES after they made it back to civilization and settled down in Donald's hometown of Yellowknife in the Northwestern Territories. They did have to go through the process of applying Katherine for Confederation membership (as she was technically not born in the Confederation), but that issue was settled by the time she had turned two years old. Millaaraq Sweeney was a full-blood Inuit (a rarity in the 27th Century) and during her formative years young Kate enjoyed visiting the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre with her mother, learning about the heritage of that side of her family. She also enjoyed attending the Folk on the Rocks festival every July, and during the winter months she enjoyed going ice skating on Great Slave Lake. She would later take the lessons she learned from ice skating and applied them to the sport of ice hockey, playing two years with the Sir John Franklin High School Falcons. Her parents taught their daughter what they knew of the basics of spaceflight and often shared stories of their exploits. When she was twelve years old, her parents returned to work with the TCES in Gemini; rather than taking her along, they left her in the care of her uncle William. The following year the family received the news that Donald and Millaaraq had been killed by a Kilrathi raider in the Rygannon system, and try as they might her uncle's family was unable to console young Kate. The simple life being offered to her was not enough; she wanted to do whatever she could to take the fight to the enemy and maybe avenge the death of her parents. One day she simply walked into the local Navy recruitment office to enlist and a few days later she was off to basic training; she was sixteen at the time, having lied to the recruiter about her age. Her first posting after basic training was aboard TCS Wolfhound, where she was rated as an Operations Specialist with the ship's Signals Division; her primary duties included acting as the ship's helmsman and working as a secondary communications specialist. She found that she had a knack for linguistics in general and cryptography in particular, and while she was deployed with Wolfhound she often spent her free time taking advantage of various optional correspondence classes offered to Fleet enlisted personnel; by the time her tour aboard Wolfhound had ended, she had accumulated nearly three years worth of tertiary educational credits. Her section chief recommended her for a position at OCS and within a year she had earned a bachelor's degree in Theoretical Mathematics from the University of Oxford at Planet Oxford. She was later able to earn both a Masters and Ph.D in the same field; her doctoral dissertation was a proposal for a new encryption code designed to enhance Fleet operations, communications, and operational security. Largely based on the Inuktitut language, her proposal was later accepted and placed into operational use with the Fleet. After receiving her Ensign's commission, her next assignment was to TCS Coral Sea, where she lead the ship's Signals Division and later doubled as lead of the ship's Radio Division after the officer in charge was killed in action in Enigma Sector. She was later transferred to TCS Austerlitz, where she served as ship's Communications Officer. She transferred to a post at the Space Naval Warfare School in Newport, Rhode Island after the conclusion of her tour aboard Austerlitz, where she stayed for two years as a Communications and Encryptions instructor with an accompanying promotion to the grade of Lieutenant Commander. After the Battle of Earth, she was transferred to TCS Hermes, where she served the final year of the war as ship's Communications Officer. She also doubled as Chief Flight Control Officer for the ship's Air Wing, relaying approach vectors, mission updates, and orders from higher up to the pilots serving aboard. She developed a reputation for being utterly cold and detatched, to the point that she earned the title of “The Bitch” from all of the pilots aboard Hermes; in truth her demeanor was her way of coping with the chaos and death that she dealt with on a daily basis - there were few pilots who died during her service whose death screams she would be mercifully absent for, some of whom she (deep down anyway) cared for deeply. She ultimately survived the war and was later given a staff assignment at Titan HQ. While she was there, she recognized the threat and magnitude of the growing Black Lance conspiracy. She was one of the leaders of the anti-Black Lance movement who helped William Eisen commandeer TCS Mount St. Helens, and she served as Captain Eisen’s communications officer during her climactic battle against TCS Vesuvius. In 2680 in light of years of excellent service to the Confederation, she was recommended for command school, and would later be assigned as commanding officer aboard TCS McKinley, a supercarrier of the Vesuvius-class.

There are few people that underestimate Sweeney, a stunningly beautiful brunette, these days; she is as tough and competent as they come. Inwardly quite passionate, she knows that there is no place for emotion when people's lives are on the line, a lesson she learned early in her career. She is quite intolerant of the “frat boy antics” of the pilots under her charge, while in turn they think her to be ice-cold and emotionless. She has found that serving the Fleet and having a family are mutually incompatible with each other - and that she vastly prefers to serve the Fleet and Terrankind, having been married and divorced three times during the course of her career, the longest of which lasted not much longer than six months.

CAPT Matthew "Pawn" Moran[]

Matthew Moran was born in London at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, located just to the north of St. Paul's Cathedral in the historical City of London district. He was the only son of Melvin Moran, a sitting member of the House of Commons in the British Parliament, and his wife Jasmine. When Matthew was three years old, his father was appointed High Commissioner for Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom to Canada, and the family shortly thereafter moved to the capital of the Canadian Dominion at Ottawa. Young Matthew grew up heavily involved in political spheres, with dignitaries and politicians common guests at his family's dinner table. These guests occasionally included high ranking members of the Confederation Grand Assembly (such as Jamison More) and high-ranking members of the Confederation military such as Admiral Wayne Banbridge (who made quite an impression on young Matthew during his visit - particularly with his opinion that those who criticize military leaders should have at least served the military at some point, an opinion that did not sit too well with Matthew's father). A bright young man, Matthew developed a high affinity for the game of Chess and its variants; he was quite fond of Shogi in particular but could never find anyone willing to play the traditional Japanese variant of the game with him, so he learned as much as he could about western Chess and became a noteworthy player and member of FIDE. Matthew was old enough to remember the beginnings of the two great wars of the 27th Century, the final war with the Pilgrim Alliance (which was often discussed at his father's table) and the Terran-Kilrathi War, which he remembers was "no big deal for those first two months, until McAuliffe"; the McAuliffe Ambush took place just before his tenth birthday. When he was fourteen, the Kilrathi ambushed the Pilgrim enclave at Hellespont, killing 82,000 people, and attempted a similar action against the Confederation colony at Tartarus. At dinner that evening, as the politics of the war was brought up, Matthew opined that the Kilrathi action against the Terran colonies was likely the opening move of a broader campaign - that "whether or not an attack succeeds largely depends on how your pawns are set up". He was right in his assessment: just over a month later, the Kilrathi launched their failed invasion of Enyo, and it was the stories of the courage of the people who fought back that finally convinced Matthew that his destiny lied in a military career. He prepared as much as he could during his later high school years; The Art of War became one of his favorite books (and not just because it improved his chess game somewhat). In 2642, he announced to his family his intention to attend the Space Force Academy, with the intent of pursuing an officer's commission as a pilot - as it had been proven it was the pilots who were taking the real fight to the enemy. His father headtedly attempted to convince Matthew to change his mind during his final months at home, but in the end he accepted his son's choice with pride. Matthew did well at the Academy, ultimately graduating with honors in 2646. In flight school, his obsession with chess (and with using chess metaphors during flight) lent itself to his callsign, "Pawn" (and he was glad that the flight instructor who gave him that callsign didn't know the history of the name of that particular chess piece, as his callsign could've just as easily been "Peon" or some unfortunate and probably vulgar derivative thereof). Upon completing flight training, Second Lieutenant Moran reported for duty aboard TCS Eagle's Talon under the command of Commodore Jack Rumley, where he specialized in the CF-105 Scimitar Medium Fighter. He served two tours aboard Eagle's Talon, receiving multiple awards and commendations and fighting in some of the bloodiest battles of the War during the ten-year period, including the failed attempt of the invasion of G'wriss and the subsequent Confederation rout later known as Custer's Carnival. In 2655, he rotated back to Luna to become a flight instructor, where he served until 2658; the CF-105 was officially striken from Confederation front-line units shortly after his transfer. At the conclusion of his tour as an instructor, he was transitioned to the F-44C Rapier-II. Afterwards, Captain Moran was assigned to the newly constructed Olympus Station as commander of the station's Rapier squadron, where his skills were put to the test in the defense of Ghorah Khar and where he took the time to familiarize himself with new craft entering the Confederation's arsenal, such as the new F-57 Sabre. Moran performed his duty with distinction at Olympus but longed to get back out into the "real" fight; he put in a request for carrier duty again as soon as anything became available. That opportunity came in 2662, when the CO billet for the ship's Sabre squadron aboard TCS Washington under the command of Captain Ludmilla Petranova became available; by this time, Moran had been promoted to the grade of Major. Upon arriving aboard Washington, Moran found that his appointment as squadron CO did not sit well with his XO, Major Shane "Ranger" Walker. The two officers started off as fierce rivals; they butted heads in everything from personality clashes to flight operations. Ultimately, though, the two learned to respect one another and became close friends. At the Battle of the Enigma Black Hole, Moran was gravely injured; though he survived, his optic nerve had been permanently damaged resulting in some loss of vision. As a result, he was permanently grounded; with his flying days over, Moran recommended that Major Walker be given command of the squadron and transferred his own commission to the Navy. Lieutenant Commander Moran remained aboard Washington as a Landing Systems Officer in light of his flight experience. He would later become the ship's Air Boss and ultimately ship's XO, where he served until 2668. That year Washington was sent to Trojan IV for an extensive reactor refit and modernization; during the ship's refit, Captain Petranova informed Moran that she had sent a recommendation to Admiral Tolwyn for him to receive his own command, and that the Admiral had agreed with the recommendation. The newly-promoted Captain Matthew Moran was given the Commanding Officer's billet aboard TCS Hermes, where he served during the war's final years and oversaw crucial missions such as Operation Back Lash, the Behemoth mission, and the Battle of Hyperion. At Hyperion, Moran was again seriously wounded and lost a leg when Hermes took a series of torpedo hits; he and his ship ultimately survived to see the end of the War. Captain Moran retired from active duty at the end of the war and accepted an appointment as a Professor at the Naval Space Academy, instructing classes in both fighter and capital ship tactics and participating in many chess tournaments. Moran died of natural causes in 2683, living long enough to see the onset of the Confederation's war with the Nephilim. At the time of his death, Moran was considered a FIDE Interstellar Master in chess, with an Elo rating of 2508 (he did not hold the title of Grandmaster because he hadn't completed a sufficient number of norms, despite his Elo rating otherwise being high enough for the title).

Experienced in both fighter and ship combat operations, Captain Moran brings a fighter pilot's experience and edge when it comes to captaining his carrier. To his men and women, he is fair and respectful; against the Kilrathi, he is aggressive, fierce and unrelenting. Both traits have earned him the respect of his crew. Well acquainted with Kilrathi psychology and tactics, Captain Moran plots his counter-strategies against them with the calm intelligence of a veteran chess player.

VADM Jack Rumley[]

John Rumley III was the middle child and only son of Dennis Rumley, Jr., a private hover-vehicle mechanic who was raised in a working-class home in Boston, and his wife, Dr. Carolyn Rumley, an associate professor of political science at Assumption College in Worcester. Of Irish descent, his father's family could trace its lineage back to County Donegal and the vicinity of Stranorlar, and their history included some noteworthy figures, including a late 20th Century race car driver of some note. His maternal grandfather, Kirk Earnhardt, was one of several men responsible for the design and construction of TCS Haile Selassie, the ship that was equipped with the first working Confederation Akwende drive prototype and successfully completed a successful set of round-trip jump transits between Sol and Polaris in 2588. Young Jack was enrolled at St. Leo Catholic School at the age of three and continued in attendance there throughout his early secondary educational years, generally coming in as one of the top five students in his class each year. As a prominent citizen of Leominster, his mother made sure that young Jack had a good grounding in the arts; trips to listen to performances of the Boston Symphony Orchestra were common occurrences during Jack's formative years, though he also enjoyed the Christmas program of the Leominster Colonial Band annually as well. He also enjoyed the yearly Starburst Festival at Doyle field each June; in 2624, his father was was recognized as the town's "citizen of the Year" during the festival. Jack later attended Leominster High School and enjoyed attending hyperball games, particularly the Blue Devils' annual game against the Fitchburg High School Red Raiders. The topic of the value of military service was often brought up between Jack and his father during this time. Due to his desire both to perform a vital service to the Confederation and to pay for his own teriary education, Jack informed his father during his sophomore year of high school that he intended to join the military, a decision which his father supported wholeheartedly. The Iason incident occurred during Jack's junior year, though the significance of that event would not be realized until well after Jack had left hearth and home. In 2630, Jack attended the Naval Space Academy; while there he joined the school's amateur boxing team and became a fighter of some skill. He found that the sport helped him to alleviate tension - that nothing reduced stress quite like delivering a good beating. Jack first met fellow classmate Geoffrey Tolwyn early on during his plebe year. The two shared many common interests and became both good friends and bitter academic rivals; as a rule Tolwyn was opinionated, argumentative, and openly critical of his superiors, while Rumley was non-confrontational, quietly working "behind the scenes" to make things happen. In the end, Rumley proved himself the better academician, graduating as valedictorian of the Naval Academy's Class of '34; he was not a direct witness to Tolwyn's confrontation with Senator Jamison More at their graduation ceremony but he heard about it through the grapevine later on. Rumley believed Tolwyn's behavior to be typical Tolwyn, and could only shake his head at what seemed to be a very quick end to what would otherwise have been a very promising career. After graduation, Rumley decided to attend flight training "while it was still an option", as the flight school was scheduled to be shut down - and would've been had not the Terran-Kilrathi War broken out just a few months later. Rumley was trained on the F-36/E Wildcat-III Interceptor, and was given the callsign of "Rummy" both as a play on his surname and as a bit of irony - Rumley was a known teetotaler during his Academy years. For his part, Rumley hated his callsign - mostly for the veiled racial slur it represented - which, of course, guaranteed that it would stick. His first deep space assignment was aboard TCS Ark Royal; he was aboard when the Anna Magdalena incident occurred and the Confederation officially declared war on the Kilrathi Empire. Ark Royal was subsequently assigned to Task Force 21 along with the battleships Yorkshire and North Carolina and tasked with engaging targets in Facin Sector. She was diverted to McAuliffe by Admiral Wayne Banbridge, who believed a Kilrathi attack on the outpost there was inevitable. Banbridge was proven correct; Ark Royal met up with TCS Concordia and together the two carriers led the Confederation's counterstrike. Ark Royal lost half of its crew in a torpedo strike and half its bomber wing to enemy action but did survive and ultimately picked up the survivors of Concordia on their way back to Fleet Headquarters.

Ark Royal was out of commission for close to a year after the action at McAuliffe and hundreds of thousands of fleet personnel had been killed when the orbiting Alexandria skyhook was destroyed. By attrition, Rumley became one of the young hardchargers who stepped in their shoes to lead a new generation of aviators, rapidly making his way up the ranks. He was reassigned to the destroyer TCS Basingstoke and regularly flew missions alternating between the Wildcat and the CF-98 Crusader, establishing for himself a reputation as a cunning warrior, survivor, and strategist; he eventually became the commander of the ship's small fighter group. Basingstoke was assigned to Task Group 11 in 2639 along with Tolwyn's flagship TCS Furious prior to the Enyo Engagement, and he worked with Tolwyn to plan and implement the Confederation counter-strike. Rumley flew a Raptor during at Enyo. Shortly after Enyo, Rumley became ship's XO, effectively taking him out of the cockpit for good. After three years serving as Basingstoke's XO, Rumley was offered a command of his own - the newly launched TCS Eagle's Talon, a strike-carrier of the Bengal-class. He was promoted to flag rank after his first year aboard the vessel, which he commanded until 2662. During that time, Rumley oversaw crucial operations such as the unsuccessful First Epsilon Campaign (which, as the fleet officer in charge, proved somewhat detrimental to his career) as well as an extended tour in Vega Sector. In 2662, Eagle's Talon was critically damaged in defensive operations in the Bradbury system. While Rumley was able to accomplish his mission and extract his battle group to Ella, Eagle's Talon herself was a write-off; she was decommissioned and her hulk sent off to the shipbreakers, leaving Wolfhound as the only Bengal-class carrier still serving with the fleet. Rear Admiral Rumley requested to be put back in the saddle as soon as could be arranged; his request was granted, and by the end of the year he had been assigned the CO's billet aboard TCS Saratoga, a dreadnought of the Confederation-class, where he remained through the Battle of Earth. With most of the Confederation's military leaders dead due to a suicide bombing immediately prior to the Battle of Earth, Rumley was appointed as Chief-in-Command of the Vega Sector Fleet in the battle's aftermath with a promotion to the grade of Vice Admiral and charged with managing the Confederation's few remaining defenses there. Rumley did his best to fulfill his duties as CINCVEGAFLT over the course of the war's final year and for the most part was able to keep the Kilrathi at bay, though he was unable to prevent the loss of key Confederation colonies such as Vega Prime; his forces were simply too badly outnumbered for him to be able to cover every possible angle. With the failure of the Behemoth mission and with Admiral Tolwyn relieved, Rumley found it morally and personally obligated to pick up the pieces - he personally assumed command of the Confederation's remaining forces at that point. Coordinating with General Taggart and Covert Ops, Rumley selected TCS Hermes as his personal flagship for the Battle of Hyperion, what would prove to be the war's final major battle and a cover for the Temblor Raid. Rumley was killed in action when Hermes' bridge took a direct torpedo hit during the battle while fighting against the Kilrathi dreadnought KIS Wratghar. His sacrifice, like all of those who died at Hyperion, paved the way for Colonel Blair to strike Kilrah and end the War.

Rumley is a barrel-chested, dashing, proud and noble man, a long-serving and hard-fighting veteran of the entirety of the War's thirty-five year span. He's more-cultured than he lets on and yet manages to maintain a rough-and-tumble image, part of which is his working-class Bostonian accent. Though he never speaks of his professional goals, there is one motive that has continued to keep him pushing himself harder and harder for over 35 years: to accomplish something that Geoffrey Tolwyn could not...

  • FEEDBACK - Rumley – If possible please flex his background a bit. He’s supposed to be opposite to Tolwyn in everyway. While Tolwyn had the “perfect” upbringing growing up, he was still a defiant, opinionated rebel. But while Rumley had a lot more rough lower middle class upbringing, think Mark Walhberg “The Fighter” who went on to be a good Admiral. Also it would be great to have his upbringing in Lowell, that is a really run down suburb! Parents can have some sort of construction contracting background? Blue collar family dude. And he should be a bit taller, like 5’11 ish.
